Ancient & Sacred Sites Photography
I document the history and spiritual stillness of our ancient temples and forts, from drone-captured monoliths to the quiet solitude of abandoned ruins across Karnataka.
An aerial view of an ancient Shiva temple perched atop a massive rock monolith in South Canara. This shot combines the thrill of drone photography with the deep-rooted history of our land, telling a story of faith and nature intertwined. The sunset colours add a layer of divine glow to the scene.
A wider aerial view of the ancient Shiva temple on the monolith, showing its isolated and dramatic location amidst the dense forest of South Canara.
An aerial tour of the famous Murudeshwar temple, featuring the towering Shiva statue and the gopuram right on the edge of the Arabian Sea. A truly divine sight, especially from the air.
An aerial panorama of Mirjan Fort near Kumta, captured under a dramatic monsoon sky. The drone's perspective reveals the fort's strategic location, nestled amidst lush greenery and the winding Aghanashini river.
A short video tour of the massive Chitradurga Fort, one of the biggest forts in India, known for its impressive stone architecture and legendary history.
A video showcasing the abandoned Shettihalli Rosary Church, which gets submerged in the Hemavathi Reservoir during the monsoon. The video includes daytime, night, and astrophotography shots.
This is a star trail photograph taken over the abandoned Shettihalli Rosary Church. By taking hundreds of photos over several hours and stacking them, I can show the Earth's rotation against the backdrop of the stars, creating these beautiful celestial arcs.
The newly inaugurated Shri Parashurama Theme Park in Udupi, illuminated at dusk. This aerial shot captures the grand scale of the 33-foot bronze statue and the circular viewing gallery on the hilltop.
A slightly different angle of the Parashurama Theme Park, taken just after sunset, with the purple and orange hues of the sky creating a beautiful backdrop.
Glimpses of the Laksha Deepotsava, or festival of a hundred thousand lights, at the Udupi Krishna Mutta. A truly magical cultural and spiritual event to witness and photograph.
About Ancient & Sacred Sites
I don't just photograph these structures; I use drone technology to reveal the geometry of forts and long-exposure techniques to capture the celestial atmosphere above ruins. Whether it's the 33-foot bronze sculpture at Parashurama Theme Park or the silent star trails over Shettihalli Church, my goal is to frame these sites with the respect their history demands.
These aren't just tourist spots. They are living history. When I shoot a place like the Mirjan Fort near Kumta, I look for the strategic lines that aren't visible from the ground, the way the Aghanashini river wraps around the walls. That’s where the drone becomes essential, not as a gadget, but as a tool to see the full story of ancient architecture.
Many of these ancient sites, like the Shettihalli Rosary Church, take on a completely different character after sunset. Shooting night landscapes here involves careful planning. I use star-stacking techniques to capture the rotation of the Earth against crumbling stone, creating a visual bridge between ancient human history and the timeless movement of the cosmos.
I understand the logistics of these heritage sites. I know when the light hits the gopurams just right and I know the local permissions needed for professional aerial work. Whether you are looking for portfolio-grade images for a conservation project or simply want to document a personal pilgrimage with a different perspective, let's discuss the right gear and the right time to visit.

I’m Pratap. I spend my time chasing the light over our oldest shrines and forts because they hold a stillness you can't find anywhere else. If you want to document heritage, let's head out there.
