A selection of my best work, spanning from high-altitude star trails to the hidden corners of the Karnataka coast.

This is the reward for venturing into the remote Zanskar valley. A panoramic view of the Milky Way arching over the majestic Gumbak Ranjan peak, reflected in the still waters below. Capturing this required careful planning and enduring the cold, high-altitude night, but the result is a scene that feels truly out of this world.

This is the magic of the Karavali coast from a perspective few get to see. An aerial drone shot captures the dramatic meeting of land and sea near Udupi, with a narrow strip of earth separating the calm backwaters from the vast Arabian Sea under a colourful sunset.

Chasing the morning light in the Western Ghats. This aerial photograph from Kalasa shows the valley filled with a blanket of mist as the first rays of sun touch the surrounding peaks. It’s moments like these, where nature puts on a show, that I live for.

To give a sense of scale to the cosmos, I framed two fellow adventurers against the magnificent Milky Way in Singalila National Park. This image isn't just about the stars; it's about the human experience of wonder when faced with the vastness of the universe. It’s a core part of my astrophotography workshops.

A long exposure captures the raw power and dreamlike quality of the sea at Gokarna. By slowing down time, the crashing waves transform into a soft mist, swirling around the ancient rocks. This technique reveals a hidden, serene dimension of a seemingly chaotic coastline.

The sheer force of Shirley Falls in the heart of Uttara Kannada, captured in a way that shows both its power and its intricate details. Using a specific shutter speed, I was able to retain the texture of the water as it cascades over the multi-tiered rocks, creating a dynamic yet artistic impression.

This is the world seen through a different kind of light. An infrared photograph from Singalila National Park transforms a familiar mountain landscape into a surreal, dreamlike scene. The foliage turns golden and the sky a deep blue, revealing a hidden layer of beauty invisible to the naked eye.

An aerial view of an ancient Shiva temple perched atop a massive rock monolith in South Canara. This shot combines the thrill of drone photography with the deep-rooted history of our land, telling a story of faith and nature intertwined. The sunset colours add a layer of divine glow to the scene.

About Featured

Every frame here is a result of planning—from waiting for the perfect moon phase in the Zanskar valley to using a drone to uncover the hidden geometry of ancient temples in South Canara. I do not just point and shoot; I use techniques like long exposure to soften coastal waves and infrared filters to reveal the texture of mountain ridges. These images are not about trends or fast content; they are about capturing the raw, timeless character of a location that you often miss when moving too quickly.

Photography, for me, is about slowing down. When I am out in the field, whether it is the misty Western Ghats or a dark sky location in the Himalayas, I am looking for a story.

My approach varies depending on the subject. For my aerial drone shots, I am looking for patterns—how the land meets the water or how a temple sits atop a rock monolith. When I shoot astrophotography, the process is scientific. It involves mapping the Galactic Core, using heavy-duty tripods, and often waiting hours in the freezing cold. It is technically demanding, but the reward is seeing the universe in a way most people only see in textbooks.

I also work with alternative techniques to show you the world differently. My infrared work strips away the standard colours of a landscape, turning foliage into gold and skies into deep, surreal blues.

If you are looking at these images and wondering how they are made, I teach these exact methods. From handling a mirrorless camera for the first time in a landscape workshop to advanced star-tracking field mentorship, I help people move past 'auto' mode. My prints are also available, ensuring that whether you want a piece of the coast or a slice of the cosmos, you can have it on your wall with museum-grade quality.

I am Pratap. I grew up in Bangalore but spent most of my adult life chasing light through the Western Ghats and remote mountain passes. I shoot things that do not move fast—mountains, stars, and old ruins—and I try to capture them exactly as they feel.
