Busting Common Nutrition Myths & Misconceptions
The health industry loves to confuse you with fads and complicated rules. I’m here to cut through the marketing noise and get back to what actually works—simple, honest, Indian-kitchen wisdom.
As a nutritionist, I refuse to fall for health propaganda. This reel lists some of the most common myths I actively debunk, from "you need milk for calcium" to "carbohydrates make you fat."
Myth: Rice is bad for weight loss. Fact: Unpolished rice is a great source of energy. The key is portion control and pairing it with protein and fiber.
Myth: Spices cause stomach problems. Fact: Indian spices like turmeric and cumin are rich in antioxidants and actually promote digestion when used in moderation.
Myth: Eating fruits after meals is bad for digestion. Fact: The timing doesn't matter as much as consistency. Fruits are an excellent source of fiber and nutrients whenever you eat them.
Myth: Skipping meals is good for weight loss. Fact: This often leads to overeating later. Eating balanced, timely meals keeps your metabolism steady.
Worried about calcium on a plant-based diet? Here's a fact: Ragi has three times more calcium than a glass of milk. Our traditional foods hold incredible power.
Many people think a vegan diet is expensive or lacks nutrients. But as I always say, 'dal chawal toh vegan hi hai na?' It's about returning to simple, whole foods, not fancy products.
About this collection
We often pay extra for "health" products—like special fiber packets or "diet-friendly" grains—when the answer is sitting in your pantry. I don't just tell you what to eat; I teach you how to read labels so you can spot when a brand is selling you back the nutrients they stripped out in the first place. My goal is to save you money and headache by helping you return to the basics that actually nourish your body.
Why "Healthy" Marketing is Often Misleading
Walking through a supermarket can feel like a minefield. You see labels shouting "Sugar-Free," "Fortified," or "Low-Calorie," and it is easy to get sucked in. As someone who transitioned from a corporate engineering career to holistic nutrition, I have seen firsthand how these marketing tactics play on our fears.
Here is the truth about some myths I tackle in my sessions:
- "Veganism is expensive": It is only expensive if you buy processed, branded "vegan" snacks. If you are eating dal-chawal, sabzi-roti, or seasonal fruits, you are already following a healthy plant-based diet.
- "Rice makes you fat": This is a huge misconception. The problem is rarely the rice; it is the lack of fiber and portion control. Unpolished rice is a fantastic energy source.
- "Read the Label": If an ingredient list has words you cannot pronounce or numbers like E-codes, your body will struggle to process it. Simple, single-ingredient foods are your best bet.
My No-Nonsense Approach
My sessions are not about restricting your life. We look at how to balance your plate using traditional Indian wisdom. Whether it is debunking the "skip dinner to lose weight" myth or explaining why you do not need expensive "superfood" powders when you have ragi and turmeric, I keep it practical.
If you are tired of chasing fads that leave you burnt out, let us talk. My corporate experience means I know exactly how hard it is to eat well when deadlines are piling up. I do not offer magic pills—I offer habits that stick.
