Master Your Basketball Shot: Form and Mechanics
Stop missing open layups and mid-range jumpers. Learn the mechanics of a consistent shot—from elbow alignment to the perfect follow-through—right here in Dwarka.
A good shot is built on great form. Here, I am working with players on their shooting technique, focusing on elbow alignment and follow-through. This kind of personalized basketball coaching ensures each player understands the mechanics to become a consistent scorer.
Attacking closeouts is a critical offensive skill. This drill focuses on different ways to score when a defender is rushing towards you, including the left-right catch and shoot and the hop catch and shoot. We keep the fundamentals strong with mid-range shooting practice.
This drill focuses on finishing strong at the rim with a layup. The player practices taking off from the correct foot and using the backboard, a fundamental scoring technique that we perfect through repetition.
About Sharpening Your Shot
It isn't just about throwing the ball at the hoop. In our sessions, we break down your shot into its smallest parts—your footwork on the catch, how you square your shoulders, and the specific arc of your follow-through. You’ll spend time practicing the hop-catch and the left-right step-in, learning exactly how to create space and release cleanly, even when a defender is closing out on you.
Why Your Form Matters
Consistency in basketball comes from repetition, but repeating the wrong form only builds bad habits. Whether you're a beginner learning to control the ball or an intermediate player trying to increase your range, the fundamentals of a good jumper remain the same.
Our Focus Areas
- Elbow Alignment & Release: We emphasize the 'dip' and the 'sweep-and-sway' motion to ensure your release is smooth, not forced.
- Catch-and-Shoot Mechanics: You’ll practice the hop-catch and the one-two step, which are essential for getting your shot off quickly in a game situation.
- Finishing at the Rim: A shooter needs more than a jump shot. We work on layup footwork, teaching you to use the backboard correctly—a key technical advantage that separates good players from great ones.
- The Mental Game: Shooting is 50% physical and 50% confidence. We simulate match pressure during practice, so when you’re standing at the free-throw line during a tournament, it feels just like another day at training.
We train at Modern Convent School, Abhinav Global School, and MRV School in Dwarka. Come by for a session to get your form corrected by coaches who play and teach at a competitive level.
