About this collection
When I sketch figures like Medusa, I don't just focus on the features. I spend hours layering graphite to get that specific intense gaze and the texture of every snake scale. It is 3h ki mehnat, which means 3 hours of hard work, just for the fine details using Faber-Castell 9000 series pencils on acid-free Bristol paper so the art lasts. I have always been drawn to the stories behind the myths. There is something about the rage, strength, and complexity of characters like Medusa that demands a high level of detail. When I am working on these fantasy illustrations, I avoid generic approaches. Instead, I use a high-contrast graphite style to make the character pop off the page.
My process is quite patient. I start with a rough outline, then build the mid-tones and darks layer by layer. For snake scales or intricate armor, I use an eraser pen to pull out the highlights, which gives that sharp, hyper-realistic look. It is definitely not about rushing; it is about getting the shading right until it feels real.
