A behind-the-scenes video showing my camera setup and the resulting sharp, close-up shot of a Red-breasted Flycatcher. This is how we get those frame-filling portraits.

About Behind the Lens: The Safari Experience
It’s rarely about just hitting the shutter. On my tours, I walk you through the patience of waiting in a hide or the technique of keeping a steady hand on a floating boat. Whether it’s managing high ISO for a low-light forest shot or setting the right shutter speed for a bird in flight, I’ll help you master your gear while we wait for that surprise sighting.
Nature photography isn't a passive activity. It’s a process. When we head out to my home turf in Navi Mumbai, or further to Bhigwan or the Panvel forests, the experience is about understanding the environment first.
The Process
Before the lens even comes out, we focus on observation. We don't just walk into a forest and start shooting. We identify behavior, understand flight paths, and find the right angle.
- In the Field: We use specific setups for different environments. On a private boat in Thane Creek, we cut the engine to ensure stability and get that low-angle shot of flamingos.
- The Gear: I shoot with a Nikon D7500 and a 200-500mm lens. On my tours, I help you understand how to use your own equipment to get similar results without disturbing the wildlife.
- The 'Rohit Pakshanche Gaav' Reality: You might see photos of thousands of flamingos, but the real magic is in the 'pink traffic jam' of their courtship dances. Capturing that requires knowing exactly when to increase the shutter speed.
The Locations & The Seasons
Every season in Maharashtra offers something unique.
- Monsoon: This is for the macro enthusiasts and ODKF (Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher) lovers in Panvel. It’s about managing low light and damp conditions.
- Winter: Prime time for our Bhigwan birding expeditions. We track everything from migratory birds to the Indian Wolf on land safaris.
If you want to move beyond the checklist and actually learn to 'see' wildlife, join me on a trail. We won't find everything every time, but that’s the honest thrill of nature.
