Navi Mumbai Flamingo Photography Tours
Experience the sight of thousands of flamingos against the Navi Mumbai skyline. Join me on the water to capture these pink wonders in their natural habitat.
A beautiful moment of courtship between two flamingos. Capturing these behaviours requires understanding their patterns, which I guide you through during our local birding tours.
A massive flock of flamingos takes to the sky over the wetlands of Navi Mumbai. I help photographers learn the right settings for capturing sharp images of birds in flight against a clear blue sky.
A Greater Flamingo, the 'Bigboss', confidently strides through the water, surrounded by smaller Black-winged Stilts. This shot highlights the scale and diversity of birdlife in our local wetlands.
An epic sunset over the creek with silhouettes of flamingos in flight. These golden hour moments are what we chase on my evening photography trails.
A unique perspective showing the flamingo habitat nestled right between the buildings of Navi Mumbai. It's a powerful reminder of how nature thrives in our city.
A video capturing the energetic and sometimes chaotic interactions within a flamingo flock. Observing and filming these 'crazy boys' is always a highlight of the tour.
This video shows the incredible view of the flamingo paradise from a high-rise balcony, transitioning to a close-up view of the flock. It shows just how integrated these birds are into the Navi Mumbai landscape.
A quick glimpse into a 'Flamingo Weekend' tour, from the ride to the spot to the breathtaking view of thousands of birds in the creek.
A portrait of a juvenile flamingo, or 'Chota Rohit', as it wades through the water. Even the young birds have a unique charm and make for great photo subjects.
A playful shot of a juvenile flamingo appearing shy. I always look for these moments that give the birds a bit of personality.
About Navi Mumbai's Flamingos: The Pink Spectacle
Most people just watch from the shore, but for real photography, we need to be on the water. I use private boat charters because they allow us to cut the engine, stay stable, and get those low-angle shots of the birds without disturbing their routine. It's the difference between a blurry snapshot and a frame-worthy capture.
My home in Navi Mumbai is a true paradise for birds. We call it 'Rohit pakshanche gaav'—the village of flamingo birds—and seeing them create a pink traffic jam in the middle of the city is something that never gets old.
The Experience
When you join my flamingo safaris, we don't just stand on the bank. We head out into the Thane Creek on a private boat during the golden hour, usually between 3:30 PM and sunset. This timing isn't just for the light; it's when the birds are active and the water is calm enough for reflection shots.
Why Join a Guided Tour
Photography is about more than just the camera. I help you with:
- Technical Setup: Setting the right shutter speed for birds in flight versus those wading in the shallows.
- Composition: Getting low to the water to isolate a subject, like a single 'Bigboss' flamingo, from the flock.
- Behaviour: Learning to anticipate when a bird is about to take off or start its courtship dance, so you don't miss the 'surprise sighting'.
I shoot with a Nikon D7500 and a 200-500mm lens, and I’m happy to share my settings and help you dial in yours. Whether you are using a DSLR or a mirrorless setup, I’ll help you understand how to use the available light and the floating platform to your advantage. If you want to see the flamingos without fighting the crowds, let’s get out on the water together.
Aashish Patil
I’m Aashish, and honestly, my camera is my therapy. I spend my days chasing everything from kingfishers in the forest to the thousands of flamingos that turn the Navi Mumbai creek pink. Join me, and let’s find that perfect shot together.
