Spot Maharashtra’s Feathered Jewels on Guided Birding Trails
From the vibrant Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher in Panvel to the elegant Paradise Flycatcher, these aren't just sightings, they are moments waiting to be captured. Join my nature trails to find the hidden avian gems of Maharashtra’s forests.
The Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, a true 'colour bomber'. This shot, taken in Panvel, showcases its stunning plumage. I share the exact camera settings (Nikon D7500, 200-500mm lens) to help you get similar results.
A male Indian Paradise Flycatcher in its rufous morph. Finding this bird with its long, elegant tail is a highlight of any birding trip, and this photo captures it in a classic pose.
The white morph of the male Indian Paradise Flycatcher, looking like a ghost of the forest. Photographing both colour morphs in their natural habitat is a rewarding challenge.
A male Red Avadavat, or Strawberry Finch, in its brilliant red breeding plumage. These tiny birds are a delight to photograph, and I know the best spots to find them.
A different profile of the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher, showing its curious expression. We focus on capturing not just the bird, but its character.
A dramatic shot of an Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher with a fresh catch. Capturing these feeding moments requires quick reflexes and anticipation, skills we practice on my tours.
Another frame from the ODKF feeding sequence, showing the struggle with its meal. Documenting these raw, natural moments is at the heart of wildlife photography.
A White-cheeked Barbet with an insect in its beak, photographed in Tamhini. The tricky forest light here is a great opportunity to learn about managing ISO and shutter speed.
A Tickell's Blue Flycatcher, a small but vibrant resident of our forests. This shot captures its beautiful blue and orange plumage.
The back view of the Tickell's Blue Flycatcher, showing off its tail feathers. Sometimes the most interesting shots come from unconventional angles.
About Maharashtra's Feathered Jewels
Finding a bird like the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher isn't about luck; it's about knowing the specific forest light and hide placement. On my Panvel workshops, I don't just guide you to the location. I walk you through the gear settings, from managing high ISOs in the dense canopy to finding the perfect bokeh for your macro shots, so you leave with the shot you aimed for 🧿.
Behind the Lens: Maharashtra’s Wildlife
Nature photography is my therapy, and my home turf offers some of the most rewarding sightings in the country. My workshops in Panvel and Tamhini focus on getting you 'the shot' while respecting the wildlife.
What We Focus On
- Monsoon Macro & ODKF: Operating during the monsoon season (June to September), these sessions are tailored for the Oriental Dwarf Kingfisher. We use established hides to ensure zero disturbance.
- Light & Settings: Forest light is tricky. Whether you are using a Nikon D7500 or any other setup, I help you adjust your shutter speed for birds in flight and manage noise reduction for those low-light canopy shots.
- Ethical Birding: I don't believe in forced poses or disturbing nests. My approach is to wait, observe, and capture natural behavior—like a kingfisher with a fresh catch or a flycatcher in its habitat.
Where We Go We cover the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats. Panvel and Tamhini offer a mix of dense forest, streams, and unique species like the White-cheeked Barbet and the Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher.
If you are looking to move beyond a checklist and actually learn the craft of wildlife photography, join me on the trail. Let's make some magic happen 🦩.
