Music Composition Masterclasses & Workshops
I believe that the best way to honour art is to share it. Join me in exploring the craft of music composition, storytelling, and creative sound design.
An announcement for a masterclass on music composition that I co-hosted with the talented Bindhumalini. We shared our approaches to composing for multidisciplinary projects like film, dance, and theatre.
More details from our masterclass on music composing. The session was designed for songwriters and composers at all levels, from beginners to experienced professionals.
About Sharing the Craft: Masterclasses & Workshops
I firmly believe that music is a collaborative language, not a solitary pursuit. My workshops focus on the 'why' behind a composition—how we translate emotions or narratives into melodies—rather than just the technical mechanics of arrangement.
Whether you are a songwriter looking to structure your ideas or a composer exploring the nuances of theatre music, my sessions are designed to be an open exchange of knowledge. I draw from my own journey across genres—from traditional Bhavageethe and Indian classical to modern electronic soundscapes—to help you find your unique creative voice.
What we explore together
- Storytelling through sound: How to let a script or a poem act as your daarideepa (guiding light) when composing for film, theatre, or albums.
- Cross-disciplinary composition: We discuss approaches for different mediums. How does the music for a dance performance differ from an independent single or an installation score?
- Technical & Creative Fusion: Understanding how to blend folk roots with contemporary production techniques without losing the soul of the composition.
Who these sessions are for
I have mentored students ranging from absolute beginners to professional composers. The atmosphere is casual—think of it as chai and charcha (tea and chat)—where we learn from each other's failures and successes. My goal is to foster a space that is inclusive, non-hierarchical, and deeply focused on the joy of creating.
We don't just talk theory. We dive into real-world projects, analyzing how I have approached scores for productions like 'The Vanishing Elephant' or how to collaborate effectively with other artists. If you are looking to refine your craft and explore the intersection of poetry, movement, and music, I would love to have you join the circle.
