About Classic Oil Portraits from Your Photos
Because I use a traditional multi-layer oil painting technique—involving underpainting, blocking, and glazing—this is not a rush job. It takes me about four weeks to finish a 20x24 inch portrait because the layers need time to cure properly, ensuring the painting lasts for years without cracking or fading.
Creating an oil portrait is a slow, intentional process that goes beyond just looking at a reference photo. When you commission a piece from my studio in Bhayandar, you are getting a process that focuses on depth and texture.
My Process I start with an underpainting to map out the structure and shadows. Then comes the blocking of colors, followed by careful layering and glazing to bring out the skin tones and expressions. This creates a richness that digital prints or quick sketches simply cannot replicate. When light hits the surface of the canvas, the colors shift subtly, making the image feel alive.
Important Details for You
- Materials: I use professional artist-grade oil paints on 100% cotton canvas, stretched over a pine wood frame.
- Timeline: Please plan for a 4-week turnaround. This includes the essential drying time before I apply the high-gloss or satin varnish that protects your painting from dust and moisture.
- Revisions: You get one round of minor digital corrections before I apply the final varnish. This is the moment to adjust any specific feature or detail you want to see.
- Framing: My oil pieces are delivered either rolled in a PVC tube or stretched on the frame, but they are unframed. This gives you the freedom to choose a frame that matches your home decor.
Whether it is for an anniversary, a tribute, or a family heirloom, I treat every portrait as a new story. I am just a medium, and my goal is to give you something real that stays with your family.
