Preserving Your Family’s Culinary Legacy
Your recipes are heirlooms. We help you save the stories and the 'andaaze se' (by estimation) measurements that make your kitchen yours.
I believe recipes are heirlooms, just as precious as jewelry or saris. This journal was created to hold them. It’s a space for the ingredients, the 'andaaze se' (by estimation) instructions, and the stories that make a dish more than just food. It’s a place to preserve the love passed down in your kitchen.
I wanted to make saving recipes as simple as having a conversation. This video shows you how our voice app works. Just press record, let your loved one share their recipe naturally, and the app captures their voice, transcribes it, and creates a beautiful, shareable PDF. It's technology finally catching up with tradition.
I created the 'Cook & Keep' journal for the little hands in our families. Inspired by my nephew, it’s a playful way for children to start their own culinary story, connecting food with memory and building a tradition of their own, one messy, joyful recipe at a time.
We inherit so much, but the recipes that raised us often fade away. I created this journal because I lost my own mother's recipes. It’s a promise to yourself and to the next generation that your family's flavors, your 'ghar ka khana' (home food), will never be forgotten.
This is my mother, Neena. I started Nivaala because I don't have a single one of her recipes written down. This entire mission is an ode to her and to all the mothers and grandmothers who loved us through their cooking. It’s my way of making sure no one else feels that same loss.
This is what it looks like to cook with memory. I'm making my family's gajar ka achaar, not from a written page, but by listening to the voice of the person who taught me. Our app lets you capture these instructions, so the guidance, the voice, and the love are with you forever.
For twenty years, you've eaten her rajma, but have you ever asked exactly how it's made? This is the moment. This is how we stop our family's culinary history from becoming just a memory. It starts with a simple question and the press of a record button.
About this collection
Whether you are looking for a hardbound journal to pass down to future generations or an app to record your mother's voice, we offer tools to stop your family recipes from fading away. Our goal is to help you capture that 'chutki bhar' (pinch of) magic and the stories behind every meal before they slip from memory.
We often treat recipes as just a list of ingredients, but they are actually the history of our families. When we lose a recipe, we lose a piece of the connection to the people who raised us. Nivaala was born out of the loss of my own mother's kitchen knowledge, and everything we do is designed to make sure no one else has to feel that same absence.
How We Help You Preserve History
-
Heirloom Recipe Journals: Our hardbound journals are built for the kitchen, not the bookshelf. With splash-resistant paper and structured templates, they provide space for the ingredients, the 'andaaze se' instructions, and the stories that make a dish uniquely yours. They are designed to stay open on your counter while you cook.
-
Nivaala Voice App: Sometimes, a recipe lives in the way someone talks—the pauses, the tips, the warmth in their voice. Our app lets you record these moments in just 10 minutes. It captures the audio and uses technology to transcribe it into a printable recipe card, ensuring the voice and the words are kept together.
-
Cook & Keep for Kids: Cooking is a way to build confidence and memories. This interactive journal is designed for children to document their own culinary journey, from their first homemade ladoos to the kitchen stories they create with you.
-
Custom Cookbook Publishing: For those who want to turn a collection of family anecdotes and handwritten notes into a physical book, we provide full-service transcription, design, and printing. We help curate your family's food history into a coffee-table volume meant to be cherished for decades.
Food is never just about sustenance. It is about the love, the comfort, and the connection we share. We are here to help you turn those fleeting kitchen moments into a lasting family legacy.
Nivaala
I started Nivaala after losing my mother’s recipes, realizing too late that those flavours don't last forever. I am here to help you capture your family’s kitchen stories so you never have to wonder how to recreate your favourite childhood meals.
