I believe recipes are heirlooms, just as precious as jewelry or saris. This journal was created to hold them. It’s a space for the ingredients, the 'andaaze se' (by estimation) instructions, and the stories that make a dish more than just food. It’s a place to preserve the love passed down in your kitchen.
This is my mother, Neena. I started Nivaala because I don't have a single one of her recipes written down. This entire mission is an ode to her and to all the mothers and grandmothers who loved us through their cooking. It’s my way of making sure no one else feels that same loss.
For twenty years, you've eaten her rajma, but have you ever asked exactly how it's made? This is the moment. This is how we stop our family's culinary history from becoming just a memory. It starts with a simple question and the press of a record button.
My grandmother never measured. My mother never wrote it down. We think we'll remember, but life happens, and the recipes we inherit quietly slip away. This is the heartbreak I'm trying to prevent.
This is where the magic happens. In the kitchen, with a pen and an open book, turning whispered instructions and muscle memory into a documented legacy. Every smudge and scribbled note on this page is part of your family's story.
This is 'Cook & Keep'. It’s more than a book; it’s an invitation for children to become the keepers of your family's food stories. It’s a space for them to document the magic they see in the kitchen, from who they cook with to the stories behind every meal.

About Recipe Preservation & Keepsakes

Preserving recipes is about holding onto more than just food - it's the memories, the laughter, the 'andaaze se' (by estimation) moments that make up our families. I started Nivaala because I lost my own mother's recipes and the feeling of that loss still stays with me. Too many of us think we'll get around to writing these things down, but life happens and suddenly, those flavours are gone.

What I Offer

  • Heirloom Recipe Journal: If you love the feel of pen and paper, this hardbound family recipe memory book is for you. Every page has space for not just ingredients and steps, but also stories and little notes (smudges and all). It's something that gets better with each recipe added, perfect for passing down.
  • Audio Keepsakes with the App: Some recipes just need to be heard, especially in your Ma's or Nani's voice. Our app lets you save an audio recipe keepsake in just 10 minutes, then turns it into a printable card. You keep both the voice and words, so nothing gets lost.
  • Cook & Keep Journal for Kids: I wanted kids to have their own space too, so this journal is playful and simple. Prompts help them link food with family and moments, so even the youngest can start their own generational cooking traditions.

It's not just recipes. It's our history, our mistakes, our 'chutki bhar' (pinch of) salt, and the love that goes into every meal.

My Story

Not gonna lie, Nivaala is basically my way of holding onto my mum, Neena. Lost her before I could ask for her recipes. Now all I’ve got is her voice, scribbles in old diaries, and honestly, that’s sometimes enough. Cooking with my nephew, I realised food is how we remember, how we stay connected. My great-grandma’s Poorni kachori recipe made it across borders. That’s what I’m trying to save – memories, not just for me, but for all of us.
