About Recipe Preservation & Keepsakes
Preserving recipes is about holding onto more than just food - it's the memories, the laughter, the 'andaaze se' (by estimation) moments that make up our families. I started Nivaala because I lost my own mother's recipes and the feeling of that loss still stays with me. Too many of us think we'll get around to writing these things down, but life happens and suddenly, those flavours are gone.
What I Offer
- Heirloom Recipe Journal: If you love the feel of pen and paper, this hardbound family recipe memory book is for you. Every page has space for not just ingredients and steps, but also stories and little notes (smudges and all). It's something that gets better with each recipe added, perfect for passing down.
- Audio Keepsakes with the App: Some recipes just need to be heard, especially in your Ma's or Nani's voice. Our app lets you save an audio recipe keepsake in just 10 minutes, then turns it into a printable card. You keep both the voice and words, so nothing gets lost.
- Cook & Keep Journal for Kids: I wanted kids to have their own space too, so this journal is playful and simple. Prompts help them link food with family and moments, so even the youngest can start their own generational cooking traditions.
It's not just recipes. It's our history, our mistakes, our 'chutki bhar' (pinch of) salt, and the love that goes into every meal.

My Story
Not gonna lie, Nivaala is basically my way of holding onto my mum, Neena. Lost her before I could ask for her recipes. Now all I’ve got is her voice, scribbles in old diaries, and honestly, that’s sometimes enough. Cooking with my nephew, I realised food is how we remember, how we stay connected. My great-grandma’s Poorni kachori recipe made it across borders. That’s what I’m trying to save – memories, not just for me, but for all of us.
