About Our Story & Media Features
People often ask how I manage my teaching profession while running Neelayambary. It started in my own kitchen with traditional recipes passed down through generations, and today, my family helps me handle every batch ourselves—from cleaning the fresh herbs to labeling the bottles. This hands-on approach means we never keep big stocks; what you receive is always fresh, made to order, and prepared with the same care I give my own children.
My journey began with a simple craving for the natural, chemical-free care I grew up with. I missed the smell of crushed chembarathi (hibiscus) leaves and the simplicity of old-fashioned herbal treatments. When I realized that everything available in stores was filled with parabens and sulphates, I decided to make my own.
Rooted in Tradition
I believe that true herbal hair care takes time. For our signature Kaachenna, we slow-cook 15+ fresh herbs in a bronze uruli over a wood fire for 48 hours. This process ensures the herbs reach 'Manal Paruvam' (sand-like consistency), removing moisture naturally without relying on artificial preservatives. Whether it is our Hibiscus and Aloe Vera shampoo or our natural hair pack, every product follows the naattarivukal (local wisdom) I hold close to my heart.
Why I Keep Batches Small
I am not a factory. Neelayambary is just me, my husband, and my family. Because we produce in small batches, we don't need synthetic thickeners or harmful chemicals to extend shelf life. We make products as you order them. This means when you use our oil or shampoo, you are getting the essence of the herbs, not a bottled formula designed to sit on a shelf for years.
