My Handmade Journey: Behind the Scenes at Bath & Being
I started with a single burner in my kitchen. Today, thousands of jars later, I still believe that handmade things carry a soul that mass production simply cannot match.
Hey you, I'm Pooja, the maker and mixer behind Bath & Being. What started as a love for all things natural has turned into my passion for creating skincare that’s good for you and gorgeous to use. Welcome to the family.
I started small, experimenting at home, and today I've sold over 5,000 candles. This video is a little piece of my journey and a reminder that if you're holding on to a dream, you just have to begin.
We may be a small team, but we put a lot of heart into every step of the process. Thank you for supporting us and being part of the Bath & Being journey.
This cacao ceremony changed my relationship with chocolate and deepened my appreciation for cacao butter, an ingredient I use almost every day. Now when I melt it, I see the whole journey, and that changes everything.
This is the propaganda I live by: slow mornings, pleasure as an investment, and the belief that handmade things carry soul. It's about living a life that is softer, slower, and wilder.
I totally fell for the propaganda that you can quit your 9-5 and build a life where your desk smells like lavender, not despair. It's not always easy, but it's still worth it.
If you ever wonder what it’s like to run a handmade skincare brand, imagine smelling like 14 different essential oils and crying over emulsifiers at 2 AM. It's a wild ride.
About this collection
My studio in Arekere isn't a sterile lab. It’s where I spend hours testing textures, dealing with failed batches, and sometimes crying over a stubborn emulsifier at 2 AM. It is messy, real, and completely made by hand.
I left my 9-to-5 job because I wanted my desk to smell like lavender instead of stress. That decision led me to start Bath & Being, and it has been a wild ride ever since. I have sold over 5,000 candles and thousands of skincare products, but every single item still passes through my hands in my Bangalore studio.
My inspiration comes from my grandmother, Ajji, who taught me to value simple traditions. That is why I do not use industrial machinery or harsh synthetic chemicals. I rely on cold-pressed oils, raw plant butters, and pure essential oils. When you buy from me, you are not getting a product that sat in a warehouse for months. You are getting something fresh, made in small batches by someone who cares about the ingredients as much as you do.
It is not always easy. Balancing the formulation of a new turmeric facewash or a hemp-infused balm while managing the logistics of a growing brand is a constant learning process. However, the feedback from my community makes the late nights worth it. I am not here to push products on you. I am here to help you turn your daily routine into a grounding ritual. If you are curious about what goes into your jars, or if you want to know why I choose specific clays and butters, I am happy to chat about it. Transparency is the only way I know how to work.
Bath & Being
I am Pooja, the person behind the mess and the magic at Bath & Being. I create botanical skincare in my Bangalore studio, and honestly, I probably smell like essential oils right now.
