Hyper-Realistic Custom Portraits from Your Photos
I turn your favorite photographs into detailed, hand-drawn charcoal and graphite portraits. I focus on capturing the real expression and texture in every face, creating a piece that feels personal and true to the original.
This is a time-lapse of a commissioned portrait, showing the sketch from the initial outline to the final shaded piece. I focus on capturing the subject's expression and the flow of her hair using graphite pencils.
A tribute to a local legend, this is a charcoal sketch of "Tulunad Manikya" Arvind Bolar. I aimed to capture his iconic, joyful expression that is so well-loved in our community.
A commissioned graphite sketch of an elder. For this portrait, the focus was on capturing the wisdom and character in his eyes and the texture of his skin, creating a respectful and realistic tribute.
This charcoal drawing was a commissioned piece. My goal was to create a natural, candid portrait, focusing on the subtle expression and the details of the clothing and hands.
A charcoal sketch portrait created for a client. I paid special attention to the details in the patterned t-shirt and the texture of the beard to make the drawing as realistic as possible.
This commissioned charcoal sketch captures a warm, smiling expression. The challenge here was to get the hair texture just right and ensure the smile looked genuine and full of life.
A charcoal sketch of my best friend. It's always special to draw people you know, and here I focused on capturing his familiar look and the unique texture of his curly hair.
This is a commissioned charcoal portrait of a young boy. I worked to capture the soft features and innocent expression, using smooth shading to create a realistic and gentle image.
A short video showing the process of drawing the portrait of Arvind Bolar. You can see how I use pencil strokes to build up the features and bring his cheerful personality to the page.
About Custom Portraits from Your Photos
I ship all A3 portraits unframed to ensure they arrive safely without any risk of glass breakage during transit. Each piece is sprayed with a matte fixative to prevent smudging and packed in a heavy-duty PVC tube or industrial cardboard sandwich, so it reaches you in perfect condition and is ready for you to frame locally.
How I Work
I don't use shortcuts or projectors. My process relies on patience, high-quality materials, and hours of staring at your reference photo until the drawing looks as real as the image. I use professional-grade graphite and charcoal pencils like Staedtler to achieve deep, rich blacks and smooth gradients on 180+ GSM acid-free Bristol paper.
What Makes a Great Reference Photo
To get the best result, send me a clear, high-resolution photo. I need to see the details of the eyes, the texture of the hair, and the skin tone clearly. Avoid photos with heavy filters or extreme low lighting, as these hide the details I need to capture the subject's true likeness.
The Process
- Consultation: You send me the photo, and we discuss the size and medium.
- The Sketch: I build the structure using light graphite, then layer in charcoal for depth and contrast.
- Detailing: I focus on the small things, like the glint in an eye or the texture of a beard, that bring the portrait to life.
- Protection: Once finished, I apply a matte fixative spray to seal the drawing and prevent it from fading or smudging.
Whether you want a monochrome graphite sketch or a color pencil portrait, I treat every commission with the same focus on accuracy. If you want something that looks less like a drawing and more like a captured memory, let's talk.
