Cultural and Mythological Art Commissions
Bringing the vibrant stories of Tulunad to life on your walls. From hand-painted Theyyam sketches to large-scale mythological canvas art, I create pieces that connect you to our culture.
Here I am with the finished 6.5 by 4 feet acrylic painting of Anantha Padmanabha. This piece was a commissioned work and now hangs in the client's home, bringing a sense of divinity to the space.
A time-lapse video showing the creation of my Theyyam color pencil sketch. Watch as I layer vibrant reds and oranges and add intricate details to bring the sacred performance art to life on paper.
About Cultural & Mythological Art
For large works like my Anantha Padmanabha piece, I prepare canvases with double-primed cotton and pre-install wire hooks, so they arrive ready for your wall without you needing to find a local framer. Whether it is a smaller color-pencil sketch or a massive 6-foot painting, I handle the finish—gloss varnish for acrylics or matte fixative for pencils—to ensure the details stay crisp for years.
My art is my way of staying connected to namma Udupi. Growing up, I was fascinated by the colors and intensity of our rituals, and that is what I try to capture in my cultural series.
The Process
For my Theyyam and Yakshagana pieces, I focus heavily on the layering of colors. I use professional wax-based pencils to get those vibrant reds and oranges that define the ritual makeup, often spending hours on just the eye detail to get the expression right.
For larger mythological works on canvas, I switch to heavy-body acrylics. I prime the canvas myself to ensure the paint sits perfectly. Because these are large pieces, I pack them in corrugated boxes with corner protectors so they arrive safely at your doorstep, anywhere in Karnataka.
Why Choose Hand-Painted
- Depth: Unlike prints, these paintings have texture and light-reflecting quality that changes throughout the day.
- Permanence: I use archival-quality paints and varnish so the colors do not fade.
- Ready to Display: My canvas works come with hooks installed. You just need to hammer a nail into your wall.
