About Grand Narratives & Cultural Epics
These large-scale paintings are significant undertakings, often taking several weeks to complete. Crafting a piece like the Rama Pattabhishekam involves multiple stages of drying, double-embossing the gesso for a 3D relief effect, and precise application of 24kt gold leaf to ensure every figure captures the intended expression. Because of the complexity and high relief work involved, these pieces are designed to be the primary focal point of a room or prayer area.
My process for these grand narratives remains rooted in the traditional methods I have practiced for over three decades. When you commission a large-scale piece, it begins with a hand-drawn sketch. Once we finalize the composition, I move to the gesso work, which creates the raised, textured details on jewelry, crowns, and architectural elements that define the Mysore style. This layering of gesso is essential for the 3D effect before the pure 24kt gold leaf is carefully applied.
I use high-quality, acid-free heritage mounting boards to ensure your artwork stands the test of time, resisting yellowing and decay. For multi-figure compositions like the Mysore Dasara procession or the Ram Darbar, I focus heavily on the background architecture and the distinct expressions of each character.
Since these are major commissions, I prioritize transparency in the process. I share video and photo updates with you at the three critical stages: the sketch draft, the gesso application, and the final gold-leaf finishing. This ensures that the final result aligns with your vision for your pooja room or living space. If you have specific ideas about the colour palette or want to fuse motifs from Hampi or Hoysala styles into your narrative, we can discuss these during the initial consultation. My goal is to deliver an heirloom piece that brings both aesthetic beauty and spiritual grace into your home.

For 35 years, I have dedicated my life to the divine art of Mysore painting. My daughter Amulya helps me manage the online details and translations, but every stroke of gold and gesso comes directly from my own hands. I do not just paint deities; I create a piece of devotion for your home.
