Competition & Stage Performance Training
Stepping onto the stage changes everything. It is no longer just about the steps... it is about the story you tell. Here is where we transform raw practice into performance.
A beautiful journey with a dedicated group. I want to thank every dancer and their families for the immense support and dedication that brought this performance to life.
Here is a first look at a recent contemporary video project with my students. I am so proud of the focus and emotion they brought to this piece.
Watch our contemporary toolbox group perform this artistic piece at the FIRA 24 annual dance showcase. This was a beautiful collaboration put together by seven contemporary dance teachers.
A glimpse from the dance production 'ARCHETYPE'. This piece explores the different masks we wear in life, and I had the honor of performing it with a talented partner.
The energy during rehearsals for a student showcase is always special. Here, my special potential batch is preparing to perform at VIGOR 2022, an event for students to experience a professional stage setup.
Two days to showtime. The focus is high as my ballet students run through their final rehearsals for the annual showcase.
The beginning of a new experimental creation, 'LOST AND FOUND'. This piece explores conceptual movement and physical theatre with a group of young dancers.
About this collection
Preparing for the stage is different from daily practice. It is not just about the steps... it is about holding space for the audience. We work on the 'why' behind every move—the spatial design, the eye contact, the way you breathe when the lights hit. My job is to make sure that when you step on that stage, you are not just thinking about counts. You are living the performance.
When we prepare for a showcase like FIRA 24 or an international event like the Dance World Cup, the rehearsal room shifts. We stop drilling and start constructing.
My approach to competition and stage performance is built on three pillars:
- Spatial Intelligence: It is not enough to dance well. You have to understand your relationship with the stage. We focus on blocking, geometric formations, and how to use the entire floor to project your presence.
- Authentic Projection: You can have perfect lines, but if there is no intent, the audience feels nothing. We dive into physical theatre and musicality drills to ensure your emotions are visible from the back row.
- The 'Real' Rehearsal: Performance is unpredictable. I teach improvisation tools, so if you forget a step or a costume slips, you don't panic. You keep moving. We work through the friction of partner work and synchronization until the mechanics become second nature.
Whether we are editing music to fit specific time limits or fine-tuning your spinal alignment, the goal remains the same: performance that feels like you. Growth beats comfort every day. Let's get to work.
