My Mentorship Philosophy: Real Guidance for Photographers
I started this journey not just to teach settings, but to build a community where we can navigate the real highs and lows of photography together.
An encouraging graphic reminding photographers that a slow month doesn't mean they're failing and that their worth isn't measured by bookings.
A post reminding artists that their talent can't be measured in likes and that their art matters, regardless of algorithm performance.
An empowering message that it's okay if your journey looks different from others, because your timeline is yours to define.
A beautiful newborn photo with text encouraging photographers not to be demotivated by AI, because human touch and connection will always matter.
A powerful maternity portrait with a quote stating that AI can't build trust, soothe a baby, or replace the human connection a photographer provides.
A photo of newborn twins with text explaining that newborn photography is about holding a baby safely and capturing a family's first memories together.
A glimpse into my creative process with a list of my "thoughts in traffic," showing the human and relatable side of my brand.
More "traffic thoughts," sharing my ideas on new shoot styles, the need for affirmations, and the constant pressure photographers face.
A list of my random thoughts, from 2025 goals to questioning photography trends, making my thought process open and accessible.
A graphic featuring me as a "Photography Mentor" action figure, symbolizing my journey and the comprehensive support I offer through the academy.
About My Mentorship Philosophy
Mentorship here isn't just theory or portfolio reviews. We spend time on the parts people usually hide—like how to price your work for the Indian market without undercutting yourself, or how to handle a client who isn't happy with their gallery. It is about giving you the roadmap I wish I had, so you aren't figuring out the business of photography by trial and error alone.
Beyond the Camera
Many photographers assume a mentor's job is to talk about ISO, aperture, or light modifiers. While we cover the technical side, my philosophy goes deeper. Photography is a business of human connection, and that is what I teach.
The Business Reality
You can have the best photos in the world, but if you don't know how to price your sessions, manage client expectations, or set boundaries, you will burn out. In our sessions, we pull back the curtain on the things that actually sustain a career. We talk about:
- The 'Slow Month' Anxiety: How to stay productive when inquiries stop.
- Pricing Strategy: Understanding your Cost of Doing Business (CODB) so you are profitable.
- Client Communication: Turning a 'price check' inquiry into a booking without sounding like a salesperson.
Why Community Matters
Photography is a lonely profession. You spend hours behind a computer screen or alone at shoots. This is why I built the Academy—to ensure that when you face a challenge, you have a safe space to ask questions without judgment. Whether you are a maternity photographer in Bangalore or a newborn specialist starting out, my goal is to help you build a career that feeds your soul and your bank account.
Mommy Shots Academy
I'm Amrita, and I’ve been where you are—juggling a camera in one hand and self-doubt in the other. My goal is to be the mentor I wish I had when I started, offering honest, no-nonsense advice to help you find your unique voice in this industry.
