How to book a maternity shoot in Bengaluru

Why 28 to 34 weeks. It's photographers' practice. No doctors' body we could find names a week for a photo shoot. Before about 28 weeks the bump shows less in pictures. After 34 you tire faster, and an early delivery can take the date away.

Compare what's in the price, whoever you book. XD Photography's ₹5,500 is two hours indoors in its gown with 40 edited photos. Camories' ₹8,999 is one hour with 10. An edited photo you add later costs ₹249 to ₹1,200, so pick a package with the number you want.

Without paying a photographer. Phone photos with a tripod and the timer cost nothing, at home or in a park, and a friend with a camera works too. If nobody owns one, a Bengaluru rental shop hires out a Canon full-frame body for ₹950 a day. Neither gets you posing, lights or editing.

A shoot at home is what about 1 in 7 of the 88 requests to mytribe asked for, all or part of it. A few photographers in this guide come to you, and what each adds is in the answer on where to shoot, below.

What shows in their photos. In Alluring Lens's, the hair and makeup are done for the shot, the gown's train fans across the frame, and soft light on a dark backdrop of roses keeps the eye on the two of them. In XD's, it's open daylight on the outdoor set, natural colour and the couple smiling to camera.

Alluring Lens's ₹30,000 package, one of its bigger ones, has all of that, plus a second standard outfit and a printed album (₹5,000 on its other packages). Bought piece by piece from the same list, with the couture gown, it works out to ₹36,000, so the package is cheaper, and it has 5 more edited photos.

At the very top, you're paying for one photographer's style. Two studios sell the same hour, one outfit and ten edited photos: Giggles & Grins for ₹5,999 and Mommy Shots for ₹29,999 plus GST. Mommy Shots' bigger package, 3 to 4 hours with 60 edited photos and an album, is ₹1,00,000 plus GST with a senior photographer or ₹1,75,000 plus GST for the same package with Amrita Samant herself. If her style is the one you want, that's what the extra pays for. Ask to see every edited photo from one real client's shoot, and make sure she's the one holding the camera.

Will it fit. Little Womb says her gowns fit regular sizes, and may not fit someone very petite, or around 6XL and up. Ask for a photo of the exact gown on a client built like you, and ask how it closes at the back. For a photographer on mytribe, ask us and we'll ask them for it.

Full sleeves, or less of the bump. A saree look is on offer almost everywhere, and Alluring Lens charges ₹1,000 to drape one for you. You can wear your own outfit at Little Womb, RP Studios and the cheapest packages at Little Boss and Alluring Lens.

If your skin has started reacting to things, tell the makeup artist before they start.

Instead of the big parks: a studio's garden or the park beside it, your society's garden if the association agrees, or a resort that includes its charges, like SidPhoto's three hours at Elements Resort for ₹15,000 to ₹27,000, depending on the package. At a monument the Archaeological Survey of India protects, still photos are fine, but a tripod or extra lights need an officer's written permission.

A freelancer at home. We found none who publishes a maternity price. Two to four hours at an event photographer's hourly rate, plus travel, comes to about ₹6,000 to ₹16,000 in your own clothes (AI estimate). The low end is south and west Bengaluru, where bookings can be shorter. Prismika's home packages, ₹5,499 to ₹13,499, sit in the lower part of that range. A gown, makeup or heavy retouching adds to it.

1. The day before

   Ask which floor the studio is on, where the washroom is, and whether there's AC. Little Womb keeps hers without AC on purpose.

2. Before you leave

   Eat, and carry water and a snack. Be on time: Little Womb postpones a client who arrives past her slot, and charges for it.

3. The first outfit

   Makeup first, if it's in the package. Then standing and seated poses, and your husband joins for the couple frames. Do your favourite look first, while you're fresh.

4. Each change

   A new outfit and a new set. Three outfits means three rounds of this.

5. Any time

   Sit down whenever you need to. If anything feels wrong, stop.

The one pose to keep short is lying flat on your back. The NHS says to avoid it for long, particularly after 16 weeks, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists warns of the same problem from 20 weeks: the bump presses on a big vein and you can feel faint. Turn onto your side between frames.

Family in the frame. Little Boss Photography charges nothing for anyone, grandparents included. Samavaya Studio includes your children and charges about ₹1,000 a head beyond that. Little Womb takes an older child on her Premium packages, from ₹14,999, and charges ₹500 for each extra person she photographs. Alluring Lens charges ₹1,000 for each extra person, plus ₹2,500 for styling. Ask whether the styling is for each person or once. With a toddler, do his shots first, while he's still happy.

Do the sum for your date. Where the clock starts when you choose, your picking time counts. At Alluring Lens, up to 10 days to choose and 40 to edit is about seven weeks, so a shoot at 34 weeks works out to photos around week 41. At XD the same shoot works out to about week 35. Choose your photos the week the gallery arrives.

Raw files are the unedited frames. XD Photography, Baby's Backyard and Yathri Lokesh hand over every one. Little Womb shares every photo watermarked so you can choose, and never hands over camera raw files.

Save them. Download everything the day the link comes, and keep two copies: Prismika keeps files for 60 days, without saying from when, and may then clear them. A photobook you design yourself at Zoomin starts at about ₹1,250 for an 8x8 hardcover, less when it's on offer. Unless your package lists one, a studio album is bought on top and costs far more: Pretty Pictures' leather 12x12 is ₹14,000.

If the baby comes first, there's no maternity shoot to move, so a free-move rule doesn't help. XD says it refunds its ₹1,000. Everywhere else, ask before you pay: will you refund it, or put it towards a newborn shoot? Get the answer in the same message as the booking.

If you're admitted to hospital, tell the studio the moment you know. At Prismika, a move inside 72 hours of the shoot loses the 30%. Little Womb and Samavaya will move the date, and XD says it will.

At the most expensive studios, Mommy Shots takes 80% to hold a date and doesn't refund it. Pretty Pictures takes 50% if you book 30 or more days ahead, and doesn't refund it either.

You don't have to ask each one yourself. Ask us and we'll find out what the photographers here do with the deposit if the baby comes early. And if something isn't going to plan with a photographer you booked through us, a person here sorts it out.

Under section 17 of the Copyright Act, 1957, whoever pays for a photograph owns the copyright unless an agreement says otherwise, and many studios' terms are that agreement. The privacy law that would cover your photos, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, isn't in force on this point until about May 2027. Until then, what you sign is what protects you.

You can ask for frames like this, with no face in them at all. And ask who else will be in the room while you change. XD Photography's indoor packages come with a private changing room, and its Kengeri ones a shared one.
