About Newborn Bootcamp: Posing & Safety
When you start newborn photography, the technical skills like lighting are just the beginning. The real art is learning how to be a calm, reliable presence for both the baby and the parents. I focus on showing you that when you prioritize comfort, the poses follow naturally. You will learn to read a baby’s cues, soothe them safely, and handle them with confidence, which directly leads to those soft, dreamlike images that parents cherish.
Safety is non-negotiable. It is the first thing I teach and the last thing we check before every shutter click. During these workshops at my Bengaluru studio, we move beyond theory to cover the realities of handling a newborn, which is often the most intimidating part for new photographers.
Why Safe Handling Matters
Newborns are delicate, and they communicate through their body language. If you are rushing or tense, they will be too. I teach you how to manage the environment—room temperature, sound, and gentle soothing techniques—to keep the baby relaxed and asleep. When the baby feels secure, they remain in a natural, curled state, which makes posing easier and safer for everyone involved.
Mastering the Composite Technique
Many of the 'impossible' poses you see on Instagram, such as the Froggy pose or specific chin-on-hands setups, are actually composite shots. I demonstrate how to execute these safely by using a spotter and capturing multiple frames that are later merged in editing. You will learn that no single pose is worth a baby's safety, and how to use propping and support to ensure the baby is comfortable at every angle.
The Hands-On Difference
We start by practicing on dolls to master structure, angles, and pressure points without the stress of a real baby. Once you understand the mechanics, we move to live sessions. We keep batch sizes small, capped at 10 to 15 students, so you get the visibility and feedback you need. You will walk away not just with a portfolio of images, but with the peace of mind that you can safely handle any session that comes your way.
