About Maternity Masterclass: Lighting & Posing
Most photographers get the exposure right but miss the emotion. In this masterclass, I teach you how to use shadows, angles, and precise light shaping to sculpt a pregnant silhouette, not just document it. We look at the theory behind every lighting setup so you stop guessing and start creating images that look intentional.
Beyond the Snap: My Approach to Maternity
Many photographers assume maternity portraits are just about a nice dress and a pretty background. I believe it is about the story. In my studio in Domlur, we strip everything back to basics to understand how light interacts with the body.
What We Will Cover in Class
- Lighting Theory: We move beyond 'good lighting' and into the mechanics of High Key (bright), Low Key (moody), and Split lighting. You will understand why a light source placed three inches to the left creates a completely different mood.
- Posing for Curvature: Pregnancy changes the body. I will show you how to identify angles that accentuate the bump while ensuring your client feels elegant, not awkward. We fix common mistakes like stiff hand placement and unflattering posture.
- Client Direction: Half the job is making the mother feel safe and empowered. I share my own scripts for guiding clients, managing their comfort during long sessions, and building the trust required to get authentic expressions.
- Technical Execution: We use professional equipment like Profoto and Godox, but the focus is on your eye. You will learn to manipulate fabrics for that 'flying train' look and understand how to use shadows to add depth to your black and white edits.
Why This Format Matters
I limit my batches to 10 to 15 students because I want to see you work. You will practice alongside me with real pregnant models, not dolls. This is not a lecture where you take notes and go home. You will leave with a portfolio-ready image that you shot yourself under my guidance. Whether you are struggling to book clients or just want to refine your technical style, this day is about bridging the gap between where you are and the photographer you want to be.
