Community Architecture and Social Infrastructure Design
Designing spaces for people requires more than blueprints; it needs deep empathy. We create environments where community and comfort coexist, from senior living facilities to public urban spaces.
A design visualization for the 'Viddhashram' old-age home in Amravati. The concept focuses on creating a serene and welcoming environment with open, accessible spaces and a connection to the surrounding landscape.
About Building for the Community
Designing a space like the Viddhashram old-age home in Amravati taught us that accessibility is the primary aesthetic. We prioritized low-gradient ramps, wide corridors for ease of movement, and shared courtyards that encourage social interaction rather than isolation.
Community architecture shifts the focus from the building to the inhabitant. When we approach projects like old-age homes or community centers, we consider the psychological impact of the built environment. It is about balancing safety with autonomy.
Our process starts with deep context analysis. In Amravati, for instance, we studied the solar path to ensure rooms remained naturally lit but cool, reducing energy dependency. We incorporate:
- Universal Access: Barrier-free navigation for seniors, ensuring every corner is reachable without difficulty.
- Social Nodes: Designing spaces specifically for community gathering to prevent the feeling of institutionalization.
- Sustainable Materials: Utilizing local resources that are easy to maintain over long life cycles, ensuring the structure remains robust.
We do not just draft floor plans; we map the daily routine of the users. If a hallway is too long, we break it with a garden view. If an entrance is too imposing, we soften it with landscape elements. Whether it is a small-scale community housing project or a larger institutional facility, our focus remains on creating dignity through design.
