Devotional Sitar Performances for Sacred Gatherings
Music is my prayer. Whether it is a quiet morning puja or a large religious festival, my sitar serves as an offering of bhakti, bringing stillness and devotion to your event.
A truly blessed experience at the Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh in Varanasi. Here, I am playing an aarti for Hanuman Ji, and the entire audience joined in. This video shows the power of devotional music to unite everyone in a shared spiritual moment.

About Devotional Music: An Offering of Bhakti
For religious events like a Jagran or a sunrise puja, I often perform with a percussionist. This setup provides the right balance, offering rhythmic support without overpowering the sanctity of the moment. We focus on selecting ragas that align with the specific time of day, ensuring the atmosphere remains meditative and focused on the prayers rather than just a stage show.
Devotional music, or Bhakti Sangeet, requires a different approach than a standard stage concert. The focus shifts from technical display to creating a space for reflection and connection. Whether I am playing at a private home for a housewarming puja, a temple festival, or a corporate Diwali event, my aim is to facilitate an environment where music acts as a bridge to the divine.
My devotional sets typically run 60 to 90 minutes. I usually perform with a tabla accompanist to ground the sitar's melodies. The repertoire is selected based on the occasion—Aartis for temple ceremonies, Sufi qawwalis like Chaap Tilak for peaceful gatherings, or classical ragas specifically suited for early morning times (Prahar) like Diwali Pahat.
I am deeply influenced by the atmosphere of sacred spaces like the Sankat Mochan Mandir in Varanasi. Bringing that same reverence to your event involves careful sound management; we use acoustic-focused levels to ensure the music stays soothing rather than loud. I often include vocals alongside the sitar to make the experience more interactive, encouraging audience participation through humming or quiet singing, especially during well-known bhajans. If you are planning an event that prioritizes spiritual depth and requires a performer who understands the nuances of ritual timing, let us discuss how to tailor the set to your specific ceremony.
