Early-Years Music Teacher Training Programme
Master the art of teaching music to young children through our intensive Kodály-based certification programme, led by UK expert Naheed Shimala.
Naheed Shimala uses a simple wind instrument during a class. This demonstrates the use of varied instruments to introduce concepts of pitch, timbre, and breath control in an accessible way for young children.
Movement is integral to our teaching. Here, Naheed leads a student in a physical exercise that mirrors a musical idea, embodying the principle of learning music with the whole body.
Naheed guides a group of children through hand signs, a key component of the Kodály method for teaching solfege and pitch relationships. Her direct interaction shows the personal attention given in our classes.
In a quiet moment, Naheed uses hand gestures to communicate a musical concept. This highlights the importance of non-verbal cues and expressive instruction in teaching young, pre-literate children.
An expressive moment from one of Naheed's sessions. Her animated teaching style captures the children's attention and makes learning an exciting and engaging experience.
Naheed leads a circle game, holding hands with the students. This fosters a sense of community and shared experience, showing how to build a positive and inclusive classroom culture through music.
A teacher-student interaction showing a high-five. This captures the supportive and encouraging atmosphere Naheed cultivates, where learning is celebrated and children feel confident to participate.
Using a small prop, Naheed engages a student one-on-one. This demonstrates how to use simple, familiar objects to illustrate musical ideas and maintain a child's focus.
About Learn from an Expert: Naheed Shimala
This programme moves past theory. You will spend 24 hours of contact time with Naheed Shimala, focusing on how to use movement, solfa hand signs, and sensory tools to hold a toddler's attention. If you complete the course, you become eligible to join our faculty as an assistant teacher.
The Kodály method forms the backbone of our training. You will explore concepts like inner hearing, pulse, and rhythm through singing and physical activity. We avoid heavy textbooks, preferring instead to show you how to use puppets, scarves, and simple percussion like claves or triangles to make abstract concepts graspable for pre-literate children. This 4-day intensive course is designed for those who play an instrument or sing confidently and want to turn that skill into a teaching practice. It is conducted at our studio in Banoo Mansions, Kemps Corner. Participants receive a formal 'Early-Years Music Educator' certificate upon completion. We require that you commit to assisting in our classrooms for one year after your training, as this practical experience is where the true understanding of child pedagogy happens. Whether you are a working musician or someone with a genuine passion for early music education, our doors are open to those ready to engage with the next generation of young learners.
