About Music Teacher Training
Why I Do This
I want to see more kids fall in love with music, and that starts with teachers who really get how to connect with them. For years, we’ve been all about Western classical music, but honestly, the real magic happens when you teach little ones in a way that feels playful and real.
What You Get
- Early-Years Music Educator Certification
- Direct pathway to join our faculty
- Real classroom experience with our 'Discover Music' programme
How We Train
Our training is hands-on, not just theory. We use the Kodály method, which is all about making music fun and interactive. Expect:
- Movement, singing, and percussion (no boring lectures)
- Puppets, scarves, flash cards - tools that actually work with kids
- Learning from Naheed Shimala, a UK expert who keeps things lively
Who Should Apply
If you can play an instrument, sing confidently, and genuinely enjoy being around young kids, you’ll fit right in. We’re not looking for perfect musicians, just people who care and want to teach.
What’s Real
You’ll need to commit to assisting in our classroom for at least a year after training. It’s not just a certificate - it’s a chance to build your skills and see if teaching music is really for you.

My Story
We’re the Mehli Mehta Music Foundation, thirty years and still singing. Started as a tribute to Mehli Mehta and his son Zubin - honestly, if Zubin wasn’t around, we wouldn’t be either. Our book ‘Encore’ has all the memories. Watching kids go from Discover Music classes, tiny hands on instruments, to big moments on NCPA stage, that’s our joy. Sometimes legends drop by, sometimes our students play with orchestras, and it’s wild. Music’s in our bones, past and future.
My Work
Our Programmes - We teach Western classical music - Discover Music classes, choir, violin, cello, piano, ensemble, teacher training, plus concerts.
Early Music Education - Discover Music uses Kodály method, movement, puppets, live music - kids get hooked on music early, no pressure.
Community & Parent-Child Bonding - Parents and kids learn together, everyone’s part of this music family. Feels like home, not school.
Performance & Mentorship - Students play concerts, masterclasses, sometimes with Zubin Mehta or Pinchas Zukerman. Real stage, real nerves, real pride.
