To build a home that lasts, I often look to the past. These glimpses into history are not just old buildings, they are textbooks on how light, materials, and proportions work together to create a space that breathes.

The staircase in my grandmother's childhood home in Calcutta, built in the early 1940s. The graceful curve of the marble stairs, the simple elegance of the wall sconce, and the play of light and shadow are details that remain timeless and inspiring.

These bold, red Art Deco-style doors are from the same 1940s Calcutta home. The fact that everything remains untouched, including this daring color choice, is a powerful reminder of how confident design can transcend decades.

About Heritage & Inspiration

When I bring heritage elements into a modern home, it is not about recreating a museum. It is about understanding the why behind design choices—like the bold color of these 1940s doors or the curve of a marble staircase—and adapting that confidence to a contemporary layout. It is about finding the one architectural detail that anchors the entire room.

Heritage design is often misunderstood as simply filling a room with antiques. For me, it is a discipline of subtraction. Looking at these 1940s references, I see how they prioritized light, structural integrity, and materials that age well—like Kota stone and lime plaster. When we work on a project, we start here.

We avoid mass-produced trends that fade in a few years. Instead, we ask what materials speak to your personal history. Do you have a collection of old ceramics? Are you drawn to specific regional crafts like Thikri glasswork or handwoven textures? We use those as the foundation. We then layer them against a clean, modern canvas to ensure the space feels personal rather than cluttered.

This process requires time and collaboration. We sit with you to map out which elements of your past deserve a place in your future home. Whether it is a penthouse in the city or a villa in the suburbs, the goal is to create a space that feels like a natural extension of who you are, not just a magazine spread.
