About Awards & Recognition
We believe that awards are simply a reflection of the conversations we start with our spaces. When a jury selects a project like ZLB23 or Lucky Chan, they are recognizing more than just visual aesthetics. They are acknowledging the technical precision required to integrate handmade Channapatna crafts, complex acoustic engineering, and narrative-driven themes into a high-energy hospitality environment.
Design is a process of translating a client's vision into a tangible experience. When we designed ZLB23 at The Leela Palace, the goal was to create a Kyoto-inspired speakeasy that felt like a journey back in time, a concept that earned us accolades at India's 30 Best Bars. Similarly, our work on Lucky Chan was driven by the desire to merge a vibrant, candy-colored palette with traditional craft, a balance that caught the eye of global platforms like Dezeen and ArchDaily.
These recognitions serve as validation for our studio's philosophy: that hospitality spaces should be memorable. Whether we are planning the acoustics for a large-format microbrewery or specifying intricate wood joinery for a boutique hotel, our team balances the demands of high-traffic commercial use with the soul of handmade, artisanal details. We are constantly experimenting with natural materials like Sadharalli granite and organic lime plasters to ensure every project feels personal and intentional, rather than mass-produced.
We are grateful to our clients who trust us with these narratives and to the craft communities who partner with us to bring these details to life. Our portfolio of award-winning spaces is a testament to what happens when we prioritize storytelling and quality over industry trends.
Maia Design Studio
At Maia, I do not design for awards, I design for the experience. But seeing our work in journals like ArchDaily and Dezeen, or honored at industry events, is a wonderful validation that our focus on storytelling and local craft resonates far beyond our studio walls.
