As a chef, I am personally involved in ensuring the quality of our products. Here, I am preparing our Turkish coffee, a hands-on process that reflects our commitment to artisan techniques and authentic taste.
This is a closer look at the traditional equipment used for brewing and serving Turkish coffee. The design of the cezve is crucial for proper heat distribution, ensuring a consistently delicious and aromatic brew every time.
About The Art of Turkish Coffee
Authentic Turkish coffee requires a precise grind and method that differs significantly from standard espresso or French press styles. We use 100% Arabica beans ground to an extra-fine powder specifically for the traditional cezve or ibrik. When you brew this at home, you are following a centuries-old ritual that extracts deep, aromatic oils to create that iconic, thick foam.
The Authentic Ritual
Turkish coffee is not just a drink. It is a slow, methodical process that has been part of Mediterranean culture for generations. By using an extra-fine grind, the coffee grounds remain in the water while it heats, resulting in a full-bodied, intense flavor profile that you cannot achieve with paper filters.
Brewing for Success
To get the best result from our signature 100% Arabica blend, you need a cezve.
- The Ratio: Use one heaping teaspoon of our coffee per small cup of water.
- The Heat: Keep the flame low. The coffee should bubble slowly. Patience is the secret ingredient.
- The Foam: Never stir aggressively once the coffee is on the heat. You want to preserve the delicate foam that forms on the surface.
Why Freshness Matters
Because we grind our beans to an extra-fine consistency, the surface area exposed to air is larger than in coarse grinds. This is why our coffee is packed in resealable pouches with a degassing valve. For the peak flavor profile, we recommend consuming the pouch within 30 days of opening. We take pride in ensuring that the coffee you brew in your home kitchen carries the same depth and aroma you would find in our Koramangala restaurant.
