Music Video Costume Styling and Creative Direction

Costumes in a music video do more than look pretty. They build the character, set the mood, and tell the audience exactly who these people are before the song even starts.

It's all in the details. For the 'Razdariyan' music video, we used accessories like layered bracelets, delicate rings, and a rose choker to add depth and personality to the characters' styles.

Costume styling for a music video is about creating a whole mood. For Dharma Movies' 'Razdariyan', we focused on the small details to tell a story of love and longing. This is the official poster featuring Prajakta Koli and Taaruk Raina.

About this collection

In music videos, the costume is the silent narrator. When we styled 'Razdariyan', every piece—from the layered bracelets to the rose choker—was chosen to highlight the emotional distance between the characters. It is not just about what looks good on camera, it is about creating a visual texture that shifts with the music's rhythm.

I treat every music video as a mini-film. Whether it is an intimate acoustic ballad or a high-energy dance track, the styling needs to be cohesive with the director's vision. My process starts with a script breakdown where I look for opportunities to use color and fabric to reflect the protagonist's internal state.

My Creative Process

  • Mood Boarding & Concept: I start by building a visual narrative. For 'Razdariyan', this meant keeping the styling simple yet soulful to match the song's tone.
  • Sourcing & Fittings: I manage all sourcing, from high-street finds to couture pieces. I always include one round of dedicated fittings to ensure the clothes move perfectly with the artist.
  • On-Set Execution: This is where the real work happens. I am on set to handle quick changes, pinning, and ensuring continuity between takes. My job is to make sure the actor feels confident so they can focus entirely on their performance.

Why Detailed Styling Matters

Often, people think styling is just about picking clothes, but it is actually about problem-solving. How do we make the look pop under harsh stage lights? How do we hide mic packs while keeping the silhouette clean? I handle these logistical nightmares so the final frame looks effortless. If you have a song that needs a visual identity, let’s discuss the vibe you are going for.
