People see the final glossy cover and think it is all glamour, but the real work happens way before the camera clicks. Whether we are shooting an editorial at The Westin Himalayas or in a studio, I am the one steaming garments at 4 AM, pinning fabrics to fit the talent perfectly, and managing complex returns for designer labels like Dolce and Gabbana. It is all about the logistics behind the aesthetic, making sure that what you see on camera is exactly what we planned.
Magazine editorial styling is where my statistician brain actually helps me with the creative chaos. It is not just about picking a pretty dress; it is about script breakdowns, mood boarding, and managing the tension between a creative vision and reality. When I worked on the HT City Showstoppers shoot with Mrunal Thakur, the goal was to capture an understated elegance that felt fresh. We paired a heavy ivory jacket with simple, Bengali art-inspired jewelry. The contrast was the key.
Then there was the feature with Shalini Passi for Indian Express. That was a different vibe entirely—bold, vibrant, and art-focused. We chose a yellow Dolce and Gabbana piece to match her personality. My process for these shoots follows a specific flow:
- Concept & Narrative: We start by breaking down the shoot story. Is it bridal? Is it avant-garde? Is it street style? We define the character before we pick the garment.
- Sourcing: This is where the magic (and the headache) is. I pull from designer networks, couture houses, and PR agencies to get pieces that aren't just 'available' but 'right'.
- The Fit: Fittings are non-negotiable. Whether it is a music video or a cover shoot, if it does not fit the body, it ruins the frame. I handle the tailoring pins and clamps right there on set.
