Handcrafted Modern Indian Ceramics by Maati Sona
I am Arunima, and here I share the story of clay—from raw earth to functional art designed for your home.
This is where the magic begins. Watch as I hand-carve grooves into a mug, a quiet and therapeutic process that gives each piece its unique texture and feel. Every line is a mark of its handmade journey.
This hand-painted pomegranate bowl is a piece of functional art, bringing vibrant color and traditional motifs to your table. I shape and paint each one by hand, making it a truly one-of-a-kind treasure for your home.
My 'Bloom & Brew' teapot is designed for those who cherish their tea rituals. The bold, hand-painted indigo florals on the off-white ceramic body turn a simple daily routine into a moment of beauty and slow living.
There's nothing like a favorite mug for your morning coffee. This 'Aubergine Drip' mug, with its deep, iridescent glaze and hand-scooped texture, is designed to fit perfectly in your hands and brighten your day.
Welcome to my studio. I'm Arunima, the artist behind Maati Sona. Every piece you see is a part of my journey, and I pour my heart into creating ceramics that bring warmth and beauty into your life.
Here you can see the delicate process of hand-painting a floral design onto a custom platter. Each brushstroke is carefully applied to bring the artwork to life before it's glazed and fired, ensuring the design is permanent and food-safe.
I love creating special pieces for festive seasons. This handful of hand-painted ceramic Christmas baubles shows the intricate and joyful patterns I can create to make your holiday decor personal and unique.
This is my 'Dutch Iris' pasta bowl set, inspired by the delicate flower. The design is hand-carved into the clay, creating a beautiful contrast with the deep indigo glaze. These bowls are perfect for sharing a cozy meal with loved ones.
About Featured
Every piece I make, from my hand-carved Dutch Iris bowls to the custom mugs, is high-fired and food-safe, built to handle your daily kitchen routine without losing its raw, tactile charm.
At Maati Sona, my focus is on wabi-sabi—the beauty in imperfection. Whether it is a mug carved with your name or a large statement vase, I work with high-fired stoneware that is durable enough for your dishwasher and microwave. My process often involves Sgraffito, a carving technique where I scratch patterns through a layer of colored slip to reveal the clay beneath, or organic hand-pinched forms that feel unique to the touch.
Based in HSR Layout, I love taking on projects that blend modern aesthetics with Indian utility, like the Dutch Iris pasta bowls or my hand-painted pomegranate series. Because every item is made by hand in small batches, slight variations in glaze and form are inevitable—which is exactly how I like it. If you are looking for tableware that feels like it belongs in your home rather than a showroom, let us create something together.
