Flamenco Jam Sessions & Improvisation
Forget choreography. This is just raw emotion, rhythm, and a connection with live musicians. Welcome to my world of Flamenco improvisation and pure, unfiltered expression.
A fun, improvisational jam session, or 'jugalbandi', with the talented tabla player Tanay Rege. This is a playful face-off between Flamenco footwork and the intricate rhythms of the tabla.
Improvisation is an art in itself. This is a solo session where I'm just moving to an inner rhythm, exploring different patterns and expressing the feeling of the moment through footwork.
The mood, the rain, and the Flamenco. A spontaneous 'Bulerias' improvisation in a beautiful garden in Goa, finding rhythm on a stone and just enjoying the moment.
A raw, unfiltered moment from a gypsy jam session. This is the essence of Flamenco 'juerga' or party, where dance is a pure, emotional expression shared among friends.
A beautiful moment of cross-cultural jamming in Mumbai. Here, I'm exploring rhythms on a cajon with a talented violinist, sharing music and creating something new together.
About Jam Sessions & Improvisations
Flamenco is not about steps you memorize, it is about compás. When I jam with a tabla player or a violinist, we are speaking a language without words. You do not need to be a professional dancer to feel this energy. If you can tap your feet and understand a rhythm, you can join me. We will not be following a set routine. We will be listening to each other and letting the music guide the movement.
In Flamenco, the most powerful moments happen when the structure breaks. My jam sessions are where I drop the choreography and return to the duende—that raw, soulful fire that defines the dance. Whether we are in a studio in Mumbai or a quiet garden space, the goal is the same: improvisation through rhythm.
I often invite local musicians—tabla players, cajonists, or violinists—to create a jugalbandi. This is where the magic happens. We explore the 12-beat compás and see how it dances with Indian classical or jazz influences. You will see me working with the tabla, finding the middle ground between Spanish footwork and Indian percussion.
If you are looking to break free from rigid dance styles or just want to see how two cultures can collide and create something entirely new, this is for you. It is intimate, it is spontaneous, and it is entirely real. Bring your curiosity and a comfortable pair of shoes, because we are going to make some noise.
