Flamenco Performances and Studio Practice Moments
Witness the raw process behind the performance. From intense green room preparations to daily studio riyaz, this is my art in its truest form.
A captured moment on stage at the NCPA in Mumbai. The red shoes, the lights, the energy of a live performance. This is what it's all about.
An artistic portrait captured by the Arabian Sea. It felt like bringing a slice of Andalusia to the dramatic rocks of the Bandra shore.
A simple portrait, capturing a quiet moment of flow. Perfectly imperfect.
Behind the scenes in the green room before a show. A moment for warm-ups, reflection, and maybe trying to master the art of taking a good selfie.

Dance is freedom of expression, a roaring emotion. This is me in my element, moving freely and exploring movement in a beautiful studio space.

About Additional Work & Studio Moments
Studio practice is not just about repetition. It is about finding the duende, that soul connection to the rhythm. When you see me in the studio, whether it is working on percussive zapateado footwork or improvising with jazz influences, I am constantly testing how Indian and Spanish musical sensibilities overlap. This exploration is exactly what I bring to the stage, ensuring that every performance, be it a corporate show or an intimate sangeet, is built on authentic, deep-rooted technique rather than just choreography.
The Process Behind the Performance
For me, the dance does not start when the music begins. It starts in the studio, surrounded by mirrors, focusing on the mechanics of the body. Flamenco is a demanding form. It requires specific acoustic feedback, which is why I prioritize studios with suspended wooden flooring. Without that bounce, you cannot feel the percussion of the feet, the zapateado, properly.
Why Studio Time Matters
- Technical Foundation: My studio sessions are where I refine my body percussion and the complex 12-beat Compas. This is where I break down the rhythm so it feels natural on stage.
- Fusion Exploration: I spend hours bridging the gap between Spanish Flamenco and Indian traditions like Kathak. It is a constant experiment of finding common ground in the rhythm.
- Mental Preparation: Green room moments are vital. Whether it is a large concert in Mumbai or a smaller, private engagement, that time before the show is when I quiet the noise and focus on the connection I want to share with the audience.
What You See in These Moments
If you are looking at my gallery, you are seeing the result of decades of daily riyaz. I do not believe in shortcuts. Whether I am performing at the NCPA or capturing a portrait by the Bandra shore, the intent is the same: to show that art is a raw, emotional, and living thing. If you are hiring me for a performance or a workshop, you are getting this same dedication. We do not just perform. We connect.
Kunal Om
I am Kunal Om. Flamenco is not just a performance style for me. It is a lifelong conversation between the dance forms of Spain and the roots of my own culture. Whether I am in a Mumbai studio or on a stage, I live by one rule: riyaz is everything, and the truth is in the movement.
