Yoga Practice and Philosophy: Finding Stillness in Motion
For me, yoga is a journey, not just a set of poses. These visuals capture the alignment, balance, and quiet focus I bring to every session at my Gurgaon studio.
Strength comes from overcoming what you once thought you couldn't. This challenging arm balance with a Gomukhasana leg bind requires immense core stability, hip flexibility, and focus. It represents the mental and physical strength we cultivate in our practice.
Balance is finding strength in movement and peace in every breath. This complex balancing pose, a variation of a standing split, requires focus, flexibility, and power. It's a beautiful expression of the harmony between effort and surrender that yoga teaches.
Movement meets mindfulness. This image captures the feeling of a deep side-body stretch after a workout. It's in these moments of stillness and release that we connect with our bodies and integrate the strength we've built.
The yoga wheel is a powerful prop for exploring balance and deepening stretches. Here, I am using it to support my lower back in a split-leg inversion. This pose builds core strength, improves flexibility, and channels the resilient energy of Adiyogi Shiva.
This is a side plank variation, an excellent pose for building oblique strength and shoulder stability. It embodies the calm, strength, and balance that I strive to cultivate in my own practice and share with my students.
A revolved chair pose, or Parivrtta Utkatasana, is a deep twisting posture that detoxifies the body and strengthens the core and legs. For me, this pose represents the idea that stretching your body helps to stretch your mind, allowing happiness to flow.
A simple stretch on my rooftop to welcome a new month. This side bend, or Parighasana variation, opens up the entire side of the body. It's a reminder that consistent, mindful movement is the key to feeling good in your body.
About this collection
Whether you are using a prop like a yoga wheel to open your back or holding a revolved chair pose, notice how we use these tools to build stability, not just flexibility. I don’t teach from a manual; I teach from 17 years of practice in Gurgaon, focusing on alignment that you can actually carry into your day. When you join my group sessions or a private class, we aren't just stretching—we are building a foundation for your joints and mind that lasts.
My yoga practice is built on the concept of 'Sthira Sukham Asanam'—finding steadiness and ease in every posture. Many people approach yoga with the goal of touching their toes or achieving a complex pose, but my focus is different. I believe that if you master your breath, you master your mind.
At my studio in DLF Phase 4, we move beyond the superficial aspects of fitness. My approach combines traditional Hatha Yoga with functional movement, ensuring that the strength you build on the mat helps you manage the demands of daily life. We use props like blocks, wheels, and straps not as crutches, but as bridges to help you find better alignment and protect your joints.
What to expect in our sessions:
- Mindful Movement: We focus on slow, controlled transitions rather than rushing through sequences.
- Breathwork: Pranayama is integrated into every class to reduce stress and improve mental clarity.
- Core Stability: We emphasize functional strength that supports your spine and posture, which is essential whether you are a beginner or a regular practitioner.
After 17 years, I have seen how consistent practice transforms people. It is not about perfection; it is about showing up for yourself, even on the days when you feel resistance. Whether you are looking for Hatha yoga to ground yourself, Vinyasa to build heat, or specific recovery programs like post-natal fitness, my goal is to guide you toward a body that feels capable, steady, and truly your own.
Komal Sodhi
I’m Komal, and I have spent the last 17 years in Gurgaon teaching that yoga is a way to live, not just a way to work out. I don't care about extreme flexibility or fancy Instagram poses—I care about how you feel when you step off the mat. My studio in DLF Phase 4 is a space where we treat every breath as a chance to find a little more peace.
