A Peek Behind My Macrame Creative Process
Wondering how those intricate wall hangings or boho earrings actually come together? My creative process is less about perfection and more about experimenting with cotton cords, fixing mistakes, and enjoying the messy joy of handmade art.
This audio resonates with us artists. Content creation alongside making macrame beauties isn't easy, but I'm grateful for the platform to share my work. This reel shows a glimpse of my earring-making process.
An easy macrame bookmark tutorial for beginners and DIY lovers. This video shows all the steps to create this beautiful boho bookmark.
About this collection
It is rarely a straight path from a spool of string to a finished piece. Whether I am tackling a bulk order or prepping for a workshop, you will often find me surrounded by scraps and tangled cords, which is where the real problem-solving happens. I believe in showing you the entire journey, mistakes and all, because knowing how to fix a short cord is just as important as knowing how to tie the first knot.
The Truth About the Mess
People often see the finished product—a clean, beautiful wall hanging or a set of earrings—and assume it was smooth sailing. The reality is that macrame involves a fair amount of trial and error. Whether I am working with 3mm cotton cord or experimenting with new fringe techniques, there are days when the knots just don't sit right. Kabhi kabhi cord galat kat dete hain (sometimes you cut the cord wrong), but that is exactly when the learning happens.
My Approach to Custom Orders
When you ask for a custom piece, you aren't just getting a product. You are getting hours of knotting and, honestly, a little bit of chaos in my studio. From sourcing specific color palettes for wedding favors to calculating the exact length needed for a 7-foot curtain, bulk orders are a puzzle. I treat every piece like I am making it for my own home, which means I take the time to ensure the structural knots are tight and the fringe is combed to perfection.
Learning by Doing
I host workshops in Bangalore because I believe anyone can learn this craft. You do not need to be 'artistic' to start. In my sessions, we skip the intimidation factor. We focus on:
- Fundamental Knots: Learning the basics so you can build anything.
- Fixing Mistakes: I teach you the tricks I use when a project goes sideways.
- Practical Decor: Making items you will actually use, like coasters or plant hangers.
If you want to host a DIY party or just learn something new, I bring everything—the cords, the beads, and the patience—right to your doorstep.
Deepika
Hi, I’m Deepika. I believe that macrame is for everyone, not just the experts, so I focus on keeping things simple, fun, and a little bit messy. My studio is a constant work in progress, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
