Every portrait I paint starts as a memory on your phone. See how I turn those images into art that feels alive, from the first rough sketch to the final coat of varnish.

This video shows Part 2 of the painting I decided to redo. You can see me working from the new reference photos, carefully adding details to the clothing and faces to ensure the final piece is perfect.

A time-lapse of the large triptych painting of the child in the shopping cart. This shows how a complex, multi-canvas piece comes together, from the initial red-toned sketch to the final, vibrant details.

A relaxing video of my colour pencil process. Here, I'm drawing a pair of hyacinth macaws, focusing on the detailed texture of the feathers and the bright, vivid blue colour.

About From Photo to Art: The Process

I want to be honest about my process. Sometimes, the first draft does not capture the exact vibe you are looking for. If that happens, I do not hesitate to redo parts until it feels perfect. You will see the progress photos as I work, so you are always a part of the journey and can provide feedback before I finalize the details.

My process is built on connection, not just technical skill. Whether it is a digital illustration on my iPad, a graphite sketch, or a large acrylic canvas, I start by understanding the emotion you want to preserve.

First, we discuss your reference photo and the mood you want. For complex compositions, I often prepare a digital rough sketch first so we are aligned on the layout. Once you approve the vision, I move to the physical work.

For graphite sketches, I focus on light and shadow using high-grade Staedtler and Brustro pencils on heavyweight 300 GSM paper. For acrylic portraits, I use heavy-body paints on stretched cotton canvas, building layers to get the depth right. I spend a lot of time on details like jewelry, clothing textures, and expressions.

I treat every piece with the same care I would for my own family, inspired by my Aagri Koli roots and my faith. Everything is finished with a protective fixative or gloss varnish to ensure it lasts. I handle all deliveries with secure packaging across India, ensuring your art arrives safe and ready to hang.
