Kuchipudi is a dialogue between the dancer, the Guru, and the musicians. Here is the foundation of my performance: the traditions passed down by my Mastergaru and the live music that fuels my dance.

A cherished memory with my Mastergaru. His guidance and blessings are the foundation of my dance journey, and I strive to honor his teachings in every performance.

With the wonderful musicians who will be supporting my performance at the Madras Music Academy. Their artistry is essential to bringing the performance to life.

A post-performance picture with my accompanying artists. The synergy between dancer and musician is a sacred connection that we build through hours of rehearsal and mutual respect.

A close up of the 'nattuvangam', the rhythmic backbone of a Kuchipudi performance. The cymbals guide the footwork and tempo, creating a percussive dialogue with the dancer.

The sacred idol of Lord Nataraja, the cosmic dancer, adorned with flowers for a student's Arangetram. We begin every auspicious event by seeking his blessings.

About My Roots: Guru & Musicians

The energy on stage shifts completely when the nattuvangam meets the mridangam in a live setting. This is not just about sound; it is about the rhythmic dialogue that dictates the intensity of my abhinaya (storytelling). When we prepare for your event, I prioritize a sound check that ensures the percussion does not drown out the subtlety of the classical lyrics, allowing the audience to fully connect with the performance.

A Foundation in Tradition

My dance is a direct lineage of the Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam tradition. My Mastergaru taught me that Kuchipudi is not merely about physical perfection but about preserving a sacred language of movement. When I perform, I am carrying forward the discipline and the specific repertoire I learned during years of intensive training. This, to me, is the core of any performance—the ability to hold the space for a tradition that predates my own career.

The Role of Live Music

While recorded tracks are available, a live ensemble elevates the experience into a truly interactive event. A full ensemble typically includes:

  • Vocalist: To sing the verses and set the lyrical mood.
  • Nattuvangam: The conductor, playing cymbals to guide the tempo and rhythm.
  • Mridangam: Providing the percussive base for the nritta (pure dance steps).
  • Flute or Violin: Adding the melodic layers that bring emotion to the storytelling.

Technical Realities

Booking a live ensemble for your event in Bengaluru or beyond requires coordination. Since these artists are professionals in their own right, we need to ensure the stage setup allows for a clear acoustic balance. Unlike a solo show with tracks, a live production requires adequate space for 4-5 musicians to sit comfortably behind me, along with specific microphone setups. If you are planning an event, please reach out early so I can coordinate schedules with my fellow artists to ensure the same musicians who rehearse with me are available for your date.

I am a product of the Sri Vempati Chinna Satyam tradition, where dance is taught as a lifelong commitment rather than a series of steps. Every performance I present is rooted in this discipline and brought to life by the energy of the live musicians who stand alongside me.
