The Artist's Journey: Practice, Press, and Accolades
A look behind the curtain at the discipline, lineage, and recognition that define my life in Kuchipudi.

A behind the scenes video from a recent photoshoot. This is part of the creative process, working with photographers to capture the essence of Kuchipudi in still and moving images.

About The Artist's Journey: Practice, Press & Praise
Every performance you see on stage begins long before the lights go up. It is found in the hours spent with my musicians refining jathis, the quiet moments of preparation before a show, and the rigorous discipline required to keep the traditional Kuchipudi repertoire alive. These images are not just highlights, they are the reality of the craft.
The Foundation of My Practice
My dance is an extension of the Guru-Shishya Parampara, the tradition I learned under my Mastergaru. I believe that true art cannot be rushed or superficial. Whether I am preparing for a solo recital or a group ensemble at Kimaham, the process is always the same. It starts with internalizing the rhythm and melody, often by singing the jathiswaram myself, before the physical dance begins.
The Role of Live Music
For me, a performance without live musicians is incomplete. The interplay between the mridangam, flute, and nattuvangam creates a dynamic energy that pushes me to perform better. When you see me on stage, the connection you witness is built on weeks of shared rehearsals where we explore the nuances of Abhinaya (storytelling) and Nritta (pure dance).
Recognition and Responsibility
Receiving awards like the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar or the Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra Yuva Pratibha Samman is a humbling experience. However, these accolades serve as a reminder of the responsibility I have to the art form. They motivate me to maintain high standards, whether I am performing a traditional Tarangam or a contemporary dance theatre production.
My Approach to Performance
I aim to make Kuchipudi accessible while honoring its complexity. My work in Bengaluru and across India focuses on storytelling that resonates with modern audiences without losing the essence of our classical roots. I invite you to see the work that goes into these productions, from the detailed makeup and props used in my dance theatre pieces to the synchronized footwork of my ensemble.
