The Art of Making: Behind the Scenes at Khyatiworks

Come take a look inside my studio, where the creative chaos happens. Every thread, stitch, and painted detail is crafted by hand, right here at home.

Friday feels in the studio. Here I am, being my goofy self, dancing with my torans while my husband tries to study. This is the joy that gets infused into every piece I make.

Boring beads, be gone. I'm wrapping these beads in fabric printed with my own art to create these little 'Color Bombs'. They will soon be featured in a new toran.

Even a trip to the hospital can be a chance to create. I always carry my art pad and pens with me. Sketching in a corner helped me find my own circle of happiness, even in an uncomfortable place.

My hospital survival kit: an art pad, medical records, and the sketch that came out of my waiting time. Art is truly therapy.

Finally starting a new piece after a 6-month break. There's nothing like the feeling of a fresh, blank canvas ready to be filled with color.

About The Art of Making: Behind the Scenes

You won't find any plastic or factory shortcuts here. When I wrap beads in fabric prints or hand-paint a wooden motif, I'm doing it because that personal touch is what makes a piece last. If you're curious about how that specific color palette on your favorite toran came to be, it likely started as a doodle on my notepad while I was waiting for an appointment or stealing a few minutes away from my IT work.

From Doodle to Doorway

My process doesn't start with a blueprint, it starts with an impulse. Whether I'm sketching on a medical form while waiting in a clinic or grooving to 90s Indipop in my home studio, inspiration is everywhere. I treat every project as a unique experiment, which is why you'll rarely see me make the exact same thing twice.

The 'Pakka Kaam' Promise

Everything is built to last, not just for the festive season. I reinforce my torans with sturdy felt backing to ensure they hold their shape on your door without drooping. When you hear the chime of the ghungroos on my pieces, you know they are attached to high-density stringing that can handle the daily movement of your entrance.

Why No Plastic?

I believe decor should feel organic. I stick to wood, metal, glass, and fabric because they hold color better and age gracefully. Even my 'color bomb' beads are individually hand-wrapped in fabric prints. It takes longer, but it creates a texture and depth that mass-produced beads just cannot match.

Have a Custom Idea?

Because I run this show from my home in Hyderabad, I have the flexibility to take on custom requests. If you have a specific color palette you need to match your home or a particular vibe you want for your walls, just reach out. Let's create something together that's as unique as your space.
