We established the world's first scientific research center for yoga in 1924. Our approach combines a century of rigorous inquiry with traditional discipline, ensuring your practice is grounded in reality.

A portrait of our revered founder, Swami Kuvalayananda. In 1927, he spent two weeks with Mahatma Gandhi, guiding him personally with yogic practices and a dietary routine to support his health.

At the request of Gandhiji's associate, Swami Kuvalayananda traveled to Nandi Hills in Karnataka to meet with the Mahatma. This meeting marked the beginning of a significant relationship rooted in yoga and truth.

These archived letters between Mahatma Gandhi and Swami Kuvalayananda document their continued correspondence. This historical record, preserved in the National Archives, is a testament to the deep respect and connection they shared.

We were among the first institutions in the world to scientifically study yoga, beginning in 1924. This legacy of treating yoga as a discipline to be observed and understood, not just a belief, continues to define us.

About Our Legacy: A Century of Yogic Science

Our historical commitment to research is not just archival; it is the foundation of our current practice. Every asana and pranayama sequence taught at our Marine Drive center is derived from this century-long study. When you practice with us, you are following methods refined by decades of physiological measurement, ensuring your routine is safe, sustainable, and anatomically sound.

Our identity is rooted in the work of our founder, Swami Kuvalayananda, who initiated the scientific study of yoga in 1924. He sought to move yoga beyond belief and into the realm of observable phenomena. This pursuit led to pioneering studies on the effects of breath and posture on the human body, work that attracted the attention of figures like Mahatma Gandhi. Our archives contain letters documenting the guidance Swami Kuvalayananda provided to Gandhiji, a historical testament to the efficacy of these methods.

Today, this legacy of inquiry continues in our Mumbai center. We do not teach yoga to encourage superficial flexibility. Instead, we emphasize stability and awareness, applying the same principles of measurement and experimentation established nearly a century ago. Whether you are participating in a group class or engaging in personalized therapy, the methodology remains the same: we focus on alignment, breath retention, and physiological well-being.

We provide a disciplined environment for those who seek to understand yoga rather than simply perform it. From our intensive certification courses to our daily Hatha sessions, our curriculum is designed to be responsible and relevant. We invite you to step away from the noise of typical fitness trends and join a lineage that treats yoga as a serious, scientifically-validated discipline.

We treat yoga as a rigorous discipline rather than a fleeting lifestyle trend. Our foundation is built on the belief that yoga should be observed, measured, and understood, keeping it relevant for both serious scholars and daily practitioners.
