About Training the Protectors: Delhi Police Karate Team

Training the police force requires a shift from sport to survival. In these sessions at our Kingsway Camp dojo, I do not just focus on the points system or scoring. We drill reaction timing and counter-attacks because, for an officer on duty, there is no referee to stop a real-world threat. We train with full-contact gear to ensure that when the adrenaline spikes, muscle memory takes over.

My role as the coach for the Delhi Police Karate Team is about building resilience. We do not look for shortcuts. The path to becoming an athlete who can compete at the World Police Games or the All India Police Games is paved with early mornings, high-intensity intervals, and repetitive tactical drills.

The Training Ground

Our home base is the Delhi Police Karate Academy in Kingsway Camp. Here, we have the mats, the bags, and the environment required to build a fighter. My sessions for the team are not just about karate; they are about functional strength. We integrate conditioning that mimics the physical demands of law enforcement—explosive power for takedowns and endurance for long shifts.

Why Discipline Matters

When I work with these officers, I emphasize Kumite and strategic distancing. A karateka must control the distance, or 'Maai', to be effective. Whether we are preparing for a tournament or a defensive scenario, the focus remains on the fundamentals. The same principles I apply to the police team—consistent effort, respect for the uniform, and mental toughness—are what I teach every student who steps into my dojo. If you are serious about building a strong foundation, come prepared to sweat.
