Kānike is a gift—a warm, analog-focused space where Bangalore’s creative community gathers to build, teach, and share ideas.

A quiet evening at the studio, where an artist works late into the night, with Julie the cat keeping watch. Our space nurtures both collaboration and the solitude required for deep creative work.

A close-up of an artist sequencing prints on a light table late at night. The studio is a place where ideas can be rekindled and projects can slowly take shape.

This image captures the quiet, focused energy of the studio after hours. It's a space that feels like a second home, where creativity can flourish at any time.

The solitary work of an artist is nurtured here. This photo shows the late-night process of reviewing prints and planning for a new book project.

We were thrilled to discover this graffiti piece by the anonymous street artist 'Guesswho' on our wall one morning. It adds to the unique, artistic character of our front yard.

A moment of shared work and learning during a workshop. The kitchen area often becomes a space for communal activities, from prepping materials to sharing a meal.

A discussion during an off-site workshop. The spirit of Kānike extends beyond our studio walls, fostering learning and community wherever we go.

About Our Space: A Home for Creatives

This isn't your typical sterile rental space. Whether you are planning a weekend workshop or a quiet evening of printing, the studio is set up with flexible, movable wooden tables and plenty of natural light. Just a heads-up: it’s a rustic, shoe-free environment with a resident cat named Julie, so it feels much more like a shared living room than a corporate venue.

Kānike—the Kannada word for 'gift'—lives up to its name by being an informal, welcoming space for the creative soul. Located in Cooke Town, this studio was built for those who value the analog, the handmade, and the collaborative. We offer 1,200 sq ft of space that is best suited for intimate gatherings of 20 to 40 people or focused, hands-on workshops for groups of 6 to 10.

The studio features raw cement flooring, white walls, and high ceilings that make it a versatile backdrop for everything from art exhibitions to acoustic poetry nights. We have track lighting for gallery displays and an overhead projector for presentations. If you are into photography, you can also access our specialized darkroom and UV light box for cyanotypes and other old-school printing processes.

We want this to be a place where you can show up, rearrange the tables to fit your project, and feel at home. It is not just about the four walls; it is about the culture we are building here. We do not have air conditioning, but with high ceilings and natural ventilation, it is a space that embraces the breeze and the outdoors. Whether you are hosting a pop-up, a book launch, or a creative meet-up, you will find an environment that supports deep work and human connection.

I run Kānike because I wanted a space that reflects my love for handmade, old-school techniques. It is an artist-run hub in Bangalore where collaboration happens naturally and creativity is not confined to a desk. If you are curious about making things, we have a spot for you here.
