About Hands-On Creative Workshops
You do not need to be a professional to join us. Our workshops are intentionally intimate, usually limited to 6 to 10 people, to keep the focus on shared learning and practical application. Whether we are stitching leather journals or extracting pigment for botanical inks, the priority is the process—we provide all the materials, and you just bring your curiosity.
A Space to Slow Down
Kānike is a gift to the creative community, and our workshops are designed to be exactly that. We believe in the magic of the handmade, which is why our studio in Cooke Town is set up with rustic cement floors, big windows for natural light, and the tools for techniques that have stood the test of time.
What to Expect
We shy away from rigid, classroom-style teaching. Instead, we host sessions that feel more like a gathering. When you join a workshop for leathercraft, pottery, or bookbinding, you are sitting at communal tables with other makers. We keep the groups small—typically 6 to 10 participants—so you get actual guidance from the facilitator, not just a demonstration from afar.
Our Analog Philosophy
We are obsessed with things you can feel. You will find our studio filled with the scent of ink and the textures of paper and clay. We often host sessions on alternative photography, botanical ink making, and traditional bookbinding because these methods require patience and practice. It is about understanding the materials, not just rushing to a final product.
Come as You Are
Whether you are looking to learn a new skill like throwing on the pottery wheel or just want to spend a Saturday afternoon making something with your hands, there is a place for you here. You might even meet Julie, our studio cat, wandering around during the session. If you have any specific questions about materials, group sizes, or our upcoming schedule, send us a message and we will get back to you.
Kānike Studio
We are Kānike, a team of artists who wanted to build a home for the analog and the handmade. We don't do corporate vibes—just a rustic, light-filled space in Cooke Town where we can teach, share, and make things together.
