Community Events and Gatherings at Kānike Studio
Kānike is a space for the things that bring us together. Whether you are hosting an acoustic set, an artist talk, or a cozy poetry night, our studio offers a grounded, non-corporate setting that feels more like a living room than a venue.
Participants in a photography project listen intently during a presentation. Our studio is equipped with a projector, making it a great spot for educational talks, critiques, and film screenings.

About Community Events & Gatherings
Since our studio is built for intimacy, we comfortably host 20 to 40 guests. We do not offer a typical event hall environment, so do not expect a polished, corporate feel. What you do get is a rustic, home-like space with cement floors and natural light where your guests feel connected to the art and to each other, not just the event.
Kānike is more than a rental space; it is a community hub in St. Thomas Town, Cooke Town. We believe in the magic of handmade things and analog processes, and our venue reflects that spirit.
Why host with us?
If you are planning a large, loud corporate event, we are likely not the right fit. However, if you are looking for a space for poetry nights, acoustic music sets, artist talks, or small book launches, our studio offers a warm, creative environment that strips away the pretension of formal event halls.
The Space
- Capacity: Best suited for 20 to 40 people for standing crowds or floor seating.
- Lighting & Atmosphere: We provide gallery-standard track lighting for exhibitions, plus large windows for natural light. Our cement floors and white walls serve as a blank canvas for your work.
- Support: We provide an on-site manager to help with entry management and technical connectivity, ensuring your event runs smoothly.
- Extras: You have access to our front yard with stone benches, which works perfectly for a small reception or a breakout area.
A Note on Our Vibe
We are run by artists, for artists. Do not be surprised if you run into our studio cat, Julie, during your setup. We have hosted everything from traditional Mutton Saaru and Ragi Mudde dinners to sound healing baths and garage sales. We love events that encourage interaction and storytelling. If you have an idea for a gathering that thrives on closeness and authentic connection, we would love to help you bring it to life.
Kānike Studio
We are a team of artists who believe in handmade, analog processes and shared experiences. We turned our studio into a space where the community can co-create, whether through art workshops or cozy neighborhood gatherings. It is a place we call Kānike, which means 'gift', and we are happy to share it.
