About Festival Stages & Sonic Journeys
When I’m curating a festival set, the biggest mistake is just playing bangers back-to-back. I start with a mood board to understand the time, the space, and the energy, whether it’s high-noon disco or a 3 AM warehouse bass session. It’s about technical liaison with your sound engineers to ensure the sub-bass is crisp, not muddy, so the music actually lands the way it should.
Building a festival stage isn't just about picking tracks. It is about crafting a sonic identity that matches the location. Whether we are in the desert sands of Magnetic Fields or a London basement, the goal is a cohesive journey.
My Approach to Festival Curation
- Mood Boarding & Sonic Alignment: I don't believe in one-size-fits-all sets. Before any booking, we sync on the event demographic and campaign themes. Are we aiming for daytime funk or industrial bass? The selection changes accordingly.
- Technical Liaison: I work directly with your sound engineers. A high-energy underground set requires proper booth setup and EQ management. I verify audio levels on-site to ensure the festival-grade execution matches the vision.
- Crowd Reading: A set is a conversation. I focus on real-time adaptation, reading the energy of the crowd and switching up the genre flow from Punjabi garage edits to amapiano or techno to keep the dancefloor alive.
Why This Matters
Most festivals have plenty of DJs, but not everyone understands how to build a space. My work focuses on the in-between moments—the transition from the chill-out tent to the main stage. I aim to create 'sonic resets' where the music helps the audience experience the venue architecture and the landscape in a new way.
