About Kathak Workshops & Masterclasses
Why These Workshops Feel Different
I see Kathak as pure storytelling. The beats, the gestures, the rhythm - sab kuch ek kahani hai (it’s all a story). My workshops and masterclasses go much deeper than regular dance classes. These are for anyone who wants to lose themselves in the dance, not just learn steps.
What We Cover
- We get into the real stuff like how your footwork talks to the tabla. If you love the sound of ghungroos mixing with lay (tempo), this is where you’ll find it.
- I push for expressive storytelling, abhinaya, using hastak (hand gestures) and face work. That’s where the emotion really comes through.
- We don’t skip technique either - chakkars, balance, all the technical bits that make Kathak so mesmerizing.
Learning from Legends
We sometimes invite guest Gurus for special sessions. Recently, we had Shri Tribhuwan Maharaj (grandson of Pandit Birju Maharaj). These Guru-led Kathak masterclasses are rare and give a real taste of traditional Kathak lineage.
Who Joins Us
Anyone hooked on Kathak. Beginners who want to learn fast, advanced dancers chasing perfection - sab aate hain (everyone comes). I try to make sure each workshop leaves you feeling the dance, not just doing it.
Our Space
Our studio is in Bangalore, but we do online workshops too. Students have told me, “Ma’am, aapne jitna feel karwaya...” (the way you made us feel...). That’s my goal - a space where you can learn, connect, and actually feel the magic.

My Story
Why Kalanjali? For me, it’s always been about offering art, not just teaching dance. Since 2008, Bangalore’s been home to our little Kathak family. My biggest joy? Watching students grow, especially when legends like Tribhuwan Maharaj share their wisdom with us. Festivals, surprises, heartfelt words from students—those moments, they’re priceless. This isn’t just a school, it’s my heart, my people, my dance.
