Featured Handmade Mithila Pickles
The taste of Darbhanga, brought to your doorstep. Explore our collection of sun-dried pickles and chutneys, crafted the old-school way.
During Sawan, the courtyards of Mithila come alive with the tradition of making aam ka achar. This isn't just a recipe for us; it's a legacy of our mothers and grandmothers. We follow the same parampara, making our pickles by hand with freshly ground spices and pure mustard oil, letting them mature in the sun. This video brings you a glimpse of that tradition, from our home in Darbhanga to yours.
Some memories are tied to taste, like rainy days with a plate of hot poha and that one special mango pickle. Our Mithila Special Mango pickle is made to bring back that exact feeling of home. It's sharp, tangy, and made with the same love you remember from your childhood kitchen.
Real achar begins at home, where mangoes are sliced by hand, not by a machine. We believe in the power of handmade food. The women of our community in Mithila put their care and attention into every single jar, ensuring the taste is always authentic and full of ghar ka swaad.
I am Kalpana Jha, and this is my story. What started in my small kitchen in Darbhanga during the pandemic has now reached homes across the world. My dream was to bring the taste of Mithila to every person who misses it. Today, with the help of over 70 women from our villages, we make more than 1 lakh kilos of achar a year, keeping our traditions alive.
Mango pickle isn't just one flavour. We make four distinct types, just like in our homes in Bihar. From the spicy, whole-chunk Mithila Special and the intensely tangy Sookha Bharua to the sweet Khatt-Meethi chutney and the sharp, grated Kuccha Mango, there is a traditional mango pickle for every palate.
Our Lal Mirch Bharua is for those who crave bold, tangy, and spicy flavours. We hand-stuff seasonal Banarasi red chillies with a special blend of roasted masalas. It's a pickle that adds a fiery punch to any meal, perfect with dal-chawal, roti, or parathas.
We believe if you can pronounce the ingredients, you can trust the food. Our pickles are made with things you'd find in your nani's masala dabba: kairi, sarson tel, and jeera. There are no artificial preservatives or chemicals, only the natural goodness of sun, oil, and spices.
Do you remember helping your dadi dry mangoes on the terrace, laid out on old bedsheets? These simple moments are the inspiration behind our pickles. We want to bring back that feeling of home, tradition, and the simple joys of childhood with every spoonful.
For those who crave authentic, regional flavours, our Kathal (Jackfruit) pickle is a must-try. We use tender jackfruit, steam it to perfection, and mix it with our hand-ground spices. It has a unique, meaty texture and a tangy flavour that makes any meal memorable.
Can't decide which pickle to try? Our Bindass Bihar Bundle is the perfect way to experience the diverse flavours of Mithila. It includes eight of our signature pickles and two varieties of our instant Makhana Kheer mix. It’s a complete taste of Bihar, delivered to your doorstep.
About Featured
We don't use factories, we rely on the Mithila sun. Each batch of our Lal Mirch Bharua and mango pickles spends 10 to 15 days drying under natural heat, which allows the mustard oil to mature properly and gives the spices their deep, earthy punch. It’s the slow, traditional way of preserving that keeps the texture chunky and the taste exactly like your grandmother’s.
More Than Just Achar
What started in my kitchen during the pandemic has grown into a community. Today, our pickles are handcrafted by over 70 women from our villages in Mithila. We keep things simple because that's how we were taught. No machines, no vinegar, and absolutely no artificial preservatives.
Our Traditional Process
- Sun-Dried Goodness: We let the sun do the work. Natural heat cures the vegetables and fruits, developing flavors that cold storage simply cannot replicate.
- Pure Ingredients: We use only Kacchi Ghani (cold-pressed) mustard oil and fresh, whole spices that we roast and grind ourselves.
- Hand-Stuffed Perfection: Our Bharua varieties, like the Lal Mirch (Red Chilli) and Mango, are stuffed by hand. This ensures the masala is evenly distributed and the ingredients retain their structure.
Whether you are looking for the spicy kick of our Bihari mango pickle, the meaty texture of our Kathal (Jackfruit) pickle, or the tang of our Oal (Yam) chutney, you will find a piece of home in every jar. These aren't just condiments; they are memories from our childhood, bottled up and sent to your thali. If you are far from Bihar and miss that specific aroma of mustard oil and roasted masalas, you are in the right place.

I’m Kalpana Jha, and everything you see here started in my own kitchen in Darbhanga. I missed the taste of home, so I started making these pickles the way my grandmother taught me, with nothing but good ingredients and a lot of patience.
