Achieving that perfect, sharp detail on gemstones requires more than just a camera. I use focus stacking techniques to merge multiple exposures, ensuring every facet of the diamond or emerald is rendered with absolute clarity. This precision is what makes the jewellery the hero of the image, rather than just an accessory.
When shooting fine jewellery, light is everything. Reflections on metal and glass can be unpredictable, which is why I use a complex multi-point setup with scrims, flags, and mirrors to control every glimmer. My goal is to create images where the jewellery feels tangible—you should be able to see the depth of the stone and the texture of the gold.
Whether it’s a high-value watch or an emerald necklace, the process often involves tethered shooting with a live monitor. This allows us to inspect micro-details, dust, and scratches in real-time, guaranteeing a result ready for high-end campaigns or large-format print. I blend this technical precision with a narrative approach, as seen in my work for brands like PMJ Jewels. In these campaigns, we don't just photograph the metal; we photograph the connection between the wearer and the jewel. The final image is always a team effort, combining the right lighting, a sharp stylist, and a quiet moment of stillness.
