Bharatanatyam Performances and Classical Dance Productions
My life’s work is a dialogue between tradition and innovation. This gallery captures the essence of my journey, from the rhythmic precision of solo Margams to the philosophical depth of ensemble productions at Ambalam.
A glimpse into the energy and devotion of a traditional Bharatanatyam Varnam. This piece, set to Anandabhairavi raga, is a cornerstone of my solo performances, showcasing intricate footwork and expressive storytelling.
The poster for "Matr̥ - The Infinite Cord," a special duet production I choreographed and performed with my daughter-in-law, Ramya Suresh. This work explores the eternal bond of motherhood, a theme very close to my heart.
Introducing "KOHAM - The Search," a philosophical group production by my Ambalam Ensemble. This work delves into Vedantic concepts of identity, choreographed to explore profound themes through the language of Bharatanatyam.
The poster for "Vāggeyakāra Bharatham," a production featuring the Ambalam Ensemble. It highlights our dedication to bringing classical poetry and compositions to life through synchronized group choreography.
My wonderful student, Meera Sreenarayanan, captured in a moment of thunderous energy during her performance of the "Danike" Varnam. It is my greatest joy to see my students command the stage with such spirit.
A moment of complete surrender to the art on the stage of Krishna Gana Sabha. For me, every performance is a spiritual journey, connecting with the audience and the divine through dance.
I was grateful to see our work "Vāggeyakāra Bharatham" featured in the press. This review speaks to the fine balance between music and movement that we strive for in every performance.
About this collection
When you bring the Ambalam Ensemble to your event, you are not just booking a performance, you are securing a complete auditory and visual experience. We travel with our own live Carnatic orchestra, including vocalists, mridangam, and flute, because the soul of Bharatanatyam relies entirely on the interplay between the dancer’s movement and live sound. Please note that for every engagement, we require a mandatory 90-minute technical sound check to calibrate our equipment to your venue's specific acoustics.
The images here document the evolution of my choreography and my role as an Acharya. Whether it is a solo recital or a group production, my focus remains on the Guru-Shishya Parampara, ensuring that the next generation of dancers performs with the same devotion as their predecessors.
My work ranges from intimate explorations of human emotion, such as our mother-daughter duet 'Matr̥' performed at NMACC, to grand, philosophical productions like 'KOHAM.' These pieces delve into complex themes like Vedanta, nature, and mythology. When we perform at venues like Krishna Gana Sabha or JSS Auditorium, we prioritize the purity of the 'Margam' sequence, blending rhythmic Nritta with expressive Abhinaya.
If you are planning an event in Bengaluru or looking to host a classical production across India, understand that our shows are highly customized. We do not just present a routine. We compose the musical score, arrange the rhythmic Teermanams, and train the dancers specifically for the story we are telling. We invite you to be a part of this journey as a Rasika, where the appreciation for the art form is as important as the performance itself.
Indira Kadambi
Dance is woven into every bit of my life at Ambalam, where my family—my husband Ramprasadh, my daughter-in-law Ramya—and my students create together. We don't just dance, we tell stories that connect with our roots and our audience.
